UW Physicians (UWP) is the faculty practice plan for the University of Washington School of Medicine with over 3,000 active members in 21 clinical/operational departments and annual revenue of approximately $600 million. A separate 501(c)(3) entity, UWP supports UW Medicine’s patient care mission across Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center, and UW Medicine Primary Care sites including nearly 45,000 hospital admissions and approximately 1 million outpatient visits annually. Faculty Practice Plan Services (FPPS) employs 300 FTEs to carry out the business functions of the practice plan under the leadership of the Executive Director, the CFO and 7 Directors. Members of UW Physicians and Children’s University Medical Group are active faculty in the UW School of Medicine. They are known for defining state-of-the-art medical care both regionally and nationally and have enhanced the basic understanding of disease processes, medical information technology, and treatment options worldwide. They teach future healthcare professionals in one of the most highly regarded and competitive undergraduate and graduate medical education programs in the nation.

UW Medicine
UW Medicine is an integrated clinical, research and learning health system with a single mission to improve the health of the public. 35,000 UW Medicine faculty, non-faculty practitioners and staff work to improve health for all people through excellence in clinical, research and education/training programs. With these integrated programs, UW Medicine health professionals provide the most up-to-date care for each individual patient, lead one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive medical research programs, and provide innovative learning programs for students, trainees, and practitioners in the health professions. As the only comprehensive clinical, research and learning health system in the five-state WWAMI region, UW Medicine provides a higher degree of healthcare, ranging from primary and preventive care to the most highly specialized care for the most complex medical conditions.
UW Medicine is a family of organizations (some public and some private nonprofit) that are operated or managed as part of an integrated health system. UW Medicine currently includes the University of Washington School of Medicine, three acute care hospitals (UW Medical Center – Montlake, UW Medical Center - Northwest, Harborview Medical Center, and Valley Medical Center), UW Physicians (a nonpro?t professional practice plan), UW Medicine Primary Care (primary care clinics), and Airlift Northwest (a regional critical care air transport service).
UW Medicine’s four hospitals admit nearly 60,000 patients annually. UW Medicine provides outpatient care with approximately 1.7 million patient visits annually at its 15 UW Medicine Primary Care clinics and many other primary and specialty care clinics. Besides high-volume outpatient presence, UW has also developed and leveraged telehealth to great advantage and supported a record number of telemedicine visits since 2020.
U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks UW Medical Center as the top hospital in the state and Harborview Medical Center as one of the best county-owned medical centers in the country. Valley Medical Center has received numerous awards and recognition for excellence as a community-based medical center.
UW Medicine also advances its mission through partnerships with other regional healthcare organizations and through strong affiliations with Seattle Children’s, VA Puget Sound Health Care System, and the Boise VA Medical Center.
