The UCSB 989-acre campus is located on the California coast, approximately 10 miles north of the city of Santa Barbara (population: 87,000) and approximately 100 miles north of Los Angeles. The campus is surrounded by the Santa Ynez Mountains to the north, natural sloughs to the east and west, and the Pacific Ocean to the south. UCSB’s workforce is the largest in Santa Barbara County with over 9,500 employees, including nearly 1,000 faculty and over 6,000 professional support and management staff. Annual student enrollment is steadily growing, currently at approximately 20,000, of which 18,000 are undergraduates.
Distinctions: UCSB is one of only 62 institutions elected to membership in the prestigious Association of American Universities.
