Company Overview
The Wills Group is a privately held company in business since 1926 with corporate offices in La Plata, MD. The companies operating under the holding company include two full service energy (heating oil, propane) companies (Southern Maryland Oil and Delmarva Oil), a wholesale petroleum company (SMO, Inc.) and a convenience store franchise operation (Dash-In Food Stores). We have retail and wholesale locations in MD, VA, and DE.
Company History
For over 87 years, we’ve been serving the MD/DE/VA region through our four brands – SMO, DMO, Dash In Food Stores, and SMO Motor Fuels, each of which is committed to providing the public with quality services and products on a consistent basis.
Our business began in 1926 when Jim Wills and Harold Swann founded the Southern Maryland Oil Company. As the industry evolved and heating oil became a more integral part of people’s lives, we continued to raise the bar for innovation within the industry, setting the gold standard for customer service along the way.
With all that history under our belts, we could spend a lot of time resting on our laurels. Instead, we think it’s more important to look ahead. While we’re committed to our customers and the quality service you’ve come to expect from us, we’re also committed to seeking out new opportunities and new people to help us continue to build a strong, sound company.
