Company Profile

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

Company Overview

TTUHSC educates students, provides patient care and conducts biomedical and clinical research. We graduate the most health care professionals in the state of Texas. Nationally recognized for innovative programs, academic achievement, and our cutting-edge research, we are training the next generation of highly qualified health professionals. To date we have trained more than 28,000 health care professionals who are serving patients and driving medical discovery in tangible, life-changing ways – both for the 2.75 million people in our immediate service area and around the world.

Like Texas itself, we are an independent and proud institution that is part of a larger union, the Texas Tech University System. As a university separate from Texas Tech University, we have been entrusted with a singular charge: to teach the next generation of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, researchers and health care professionals while simultaneously providing the people of West Texas with world-class patient care. We are both an institution of higher learning and a place where real people come for life-saving medical care.

TTUHSC operates six schools and five satellite campuses across West Texas, as well as multiple online programs. Our flagship campus resides proudly in Lubbock, Texas.

CARNEGIE CLASSIFICATION

The Carnegie Classification® of Institutions of Higher Education has designated Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) as a Special Focus Four-Year Research Institution (Very High Research Activity University). This distinguished classification places TTUHSC among 22 elite four-year special focus research universities nationwide that have curriculum with a focus in health care and medicine, research and other specialized fields.

In 2022, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center took a significant step in that mission as the Department of Education officially recognized TTUHSC as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI).

HISPANIC-SERVING INSTITUTION

The Hispanic-Serving Institution designation is granted to eligible institutions of higher education with an enrollment of undergraduate full-time Hispanic students greater than 25%, in addition to other criteria set by the Department of Education that promotes accessibility and affordability to traditionally underrepresented communities.

This status positions TTUHSC among 569 colleges and universities across the nation that have been designated as an HSI, and one of just three comprehensive health sciences centers in Texas to also be recognized as an HSI.

As an HSI, the university is actively strengthening its ongoing efforts to recruit and support traditionally underrepresented students, grow more diversified faculty, and better serve our communities as a premier health care institution.
