Explore our legacy of excellence
and your future with Sysmex.
What we do at Sysmex sounds rather complex: we’re a top-ten global leader in the design and development of high-quality, reliable and innovative clinical diagnostic hematology, coagulation and urinalysis equipment and information systems. But the impact we make is easy to see: we help to save lives around the world.
With a global network encompassing marketing, production, research and development at 30 sites in 22 countries and more than 5,000 associates, we pursue leading-edge technologies that create value-added products. We help labs to work smarter by providing scalable, automated IVD-IT equipment and LIS technology. By integrating advanced instrument technology into customized laboratory systems, we enhance the ability to provide clinical information, optimize workflow, maximize resources, and improve turnaround times.
Using our experience, creativity and knowledge, we integrate diverse technologies into life sciences to create synergies in new fields such as DNA testing for cancer, and functional analysis of cellular proteins. And we’ve found new uses for our best-in-class diagnostics technologies in fields that include sports medicine and industrial image processing.
While most companies focus on strategy and execution separately, we combine them to create unlimited opportunities for our company, our clients, our end-users, and our associates. We leverage our global resources to emphasize research and development, resulting in a line of unsurpassed products and services. Believing in the power of people, we take pride in providing better service than anyone else, and encourage our entire team to find a better way: The Sysmex Way.
Company History
Sysmex has been finding a better way for decades. Our legacy of excellence has its roots in Japanese electronics manufacturer TOA Electric Company (now known as TOA Corporation). In 1959, the company made plans to apply its core expertise in electronics to the medical industry. They released their first product, a blood-cell counter, to the Japanese market in 1963. Building upon the success of this first product, TOA became one of the world’s leading in-vitro diagnostic companies, and in 1968, changed its name to TOA Medical Electronics, Ltd.
The current brand name, “Sysmex,” was created and adopted in 1978 for the diagnostic product line. Combining the words “system” and “medical,” it includes the letter “x” because it represents the concept of infinite possibilities. In 1998, we changed our name to “Sysmex Corporation” in recognition of our global renown for developing leading-edge technologies and creating value-added products that make the world a healthier place.
Throughout our history, we have maintained our leadership position in the field of in vitro diagnostics (IVD) by continually bringing key innovations to the market, including these:
• The first fully integrated hematology system: the HS system with fully automated CBC and reticuloycyte analysis and slide-making.
• The first cyanide-free hemoglobin reagent: Sulfolyser™.
• The first fully automated reticulocyte analyzer using fluorescent flow cytometry: the R-1000™.
• The first random-access discrete five-part differential hematology analyzer: the SE-9000™.
• The first unattended urine analyzer utilizing fluorescent flow cytometry: the Sysmex UF-100™.
• The first fluorescent five-part differential: the Sysmex XE-2100™.
Since our founding, Sysmex has implemented many important changes to better serve our clients and their patients. In order to supply products that meet market needs in different areas of the world, Sysmex has developed a global network of alliances for sales and service.
