Formed in 1978, SSAB is one of the most profitable steel producers in the world with a well-defined strategy focused on selected niche segments and a history firmly rooted in the local communities where the company operates. SSAB Americas, the Americas division of Swedish parent company SSAB, is located in Lisle, Illinois. SSAB Americas operates two steel mills located in Mobile, Alabama and Montpelier, Iowa, in addition to three cut-to-length facilities in Toronto, Canada; St. Paul, Minnesota; and Houston, Texas. These North American facilities have an annual capacity of approximately 2.5 million tons of crude steel production. The Americas division also has a research and development center in Iowa, as well as four plate processing operations in the U.S., Canada and Chile.
As the largest manufacturer of strip products in the Nordics and the leading supplier of steel plate in North America, SSAB is the principal player in its domestic markets, the Nordic region and North America.
