Company Profile

Self-Help Federal Credit Union
Company Overview
What is Self-Help's Mission?
Our mission is to create and protect ownership and economic opportunity for all. We do this by providing responsible financial services, lending to small businesses and nonprofits, developing real estate and promoting fair financial practices. While our work benefits communities of all kinds, our focus is on those who may be underserved by conventional lenders, including people of color, women, rural residents and low-wealth families and communities.
Company History
Self-Help Federal Credit Union was chartered in 2008 to build a network of credit union branches to operate on a scale uncommon in the community development industry. Through a series of mergers, acquisitions, and new branch launches, in California, Illinois, Washington, and Wisconsin we are building a community development credit union that aims to provide high-impact financial services to working class communities.
Self-Help Federal now has 36 branches, over $1.6 Billion in assets, and serves over 99,000 members. We are committed to delivering safe and affordable savings, transparently-priced accounts and a full suite of loans – small dollar, citizenship, unsecured consumer, auto, and mortgage – often to borrowers who could not access responsible services elsewhere.
Self-Help Federal is part of the Self-Help family of non-profit organizations with a common mission and leadership. Over its 41-year history, Self-Help has learned that access to responsible savings, loans, and transactions is key to financial security, family healthy, and improved opportunity for low-income families. Self-Help has delivered $10 billion in financing through more than 184,000 loans to families, individuals, and organizations across the nation.
Altogether, Self-Help Credit Union and Self-Help Federal Credit Union have merged with 17 credit unions and two banks to create a network of over 68 branches serving just over 185,000 people in eight states.
Benefits
We offer highly competitive benefits for eligible staff.
Self-Help believes that income inequality undermines the security and strength of families, communities and the US economy. For that reason, we maintain a minimum salary floor for our staff, to help them meet their basic needs and save for the future.
