Pine Street Inn
Company Overview
Founded in 1969, Pine Street Inn serves more than 1,900 homeless individuals daily and nearly 9,000 annually, providing the full spectrum of services to help men and women reach their highest level of independence and get back to a place they can call home.
Mission:
Pine Street Inn partners with homeless individuals to help them move from the streets and shelter to a home and assists formerly homeless individuals in retaining housing. We provide street outreach, emergency services, supportive housing, job training and connections to employment. We tirelessly advocate for collaborative solutions to end homelessness.
Services Include:
Permanent supportive housing: More than 900 tenants live in affordable housing across Boston and in Brookline, developed by Pine Street Inn since 1984. Twenty-four hour on-site staff provides support services to prevent a return to homelessness.
Emergency and Transitional Shelter: More than 670 beds in three locations
Food: About 2,000 meals are prepared each day in Pine Street's kitchen for our own use and for iCater, a social enterprise that provides catering services to businesses and area nonprofits.
Street Outreach:115 unsheltered homeless men and women are served daily by workers on foot and by van. Pine Street is the only organization that provides nighttime outreach in Boston.
Job Training & Placement: 200 men and women annually complete training programs in food services and housekeeping or work with case managers who provide assessment, counseling, placement and job retention services for job-seeking homeless men and women.
Mental health support & substance abuse treatment: Clinical psychiatric staff and specialized programs provide support to nearly 50 percent of Pine Street's guests and 30 percent of tenants. Post-detox and other recovery programs, including the Stabilization Program, are also offered to those in need.
Social Enterprise: At Pine Street Inn, our social enterprise in food services provides training opportunities for men and women transitioning out of homeless and into the workforce.
Company History
For many, the journey out of homelessness begins with shelter, nourishment and compassion and leads to stability, permanent housing, a job and self-sufficiency.
Pine Street Inn began its journey four decades ago, offering approximately 200 men suffering from alcoholism a safe alternative to the streets of Boston.
Since then, we have expanded to serve over 1,600 men and women each day, providing a comprehensive range of programs and services, including housing, outreach, shelter and job training. The ultimate goal for all of our programs is making permanent housing a real possibility for all.
