Company Profile

O'Reilly Auto Parts

Company Overview

O'Reilly Auto Parts is a Fortune 500 company with 58 straight years of continuous growth and over 71,000 team members at more than 4,500 stores and 26 distribution centers in 44 states. We are determined to be the leader in the auto parts industry and believe that our team members are the most important asset in our business.

Company History

It started with two men - C.F. and Chub O’Reilly. Together they had the courage and the confidence to strike out on their own. They gathered together 11 others who shared the same desire to offer great customer service and auto parts availability and opened the doors of O’Reilly Automotive, Inc. on December 2, 1957.

Now, more than 58 years later, the more than 71,000 team members at O’Reilly Auto Parts are proud of the growth and success we’ve experienced over the years.

During our early years, we focused on sales and slow and steady growth. At the end of our first year, sales totaled $700,000, and by 1961 these sales reached $1.3 million. For the first seven years of operation, our first store in Springfield, MO was our only store until the second one opened in July 1965.By March of 1975, we had nine stores, annual sales of $7 million, and opened our new 48,000 square-foot warehouse, also in Springfield.

The long range plans and stability of the company were solidified by a public offering of company stock in April 1993. Since that time, the Company has grown through the opening of new stores, as well as through numerous mergers and acquisitions. We currently operate stores in 44 states, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Dramatic changes in technology, inventory control, facilities, and sheer size mark the O’Reilly growth and success story. But, it is our spirit of teamwork - how important it was then and how important it remains now - that drives our performance. The company values and culture that started with a man and his father remain evident and strong in the growth and success of today’s Team O’Reilly.

We serve two distinct customer bases - the professional (installer) customers who provide auto repair services to their customers (DIFM - do it for me), and retail ”walk-in” customers (DIY - do it yourself). This dual-market strategy continues to differentiate us from our competition and is a major factor in our ongoing success. Depending on the store’s professional versus retail customer mix, over 95% of our locations have team members who are dedicated to our professional customers, offering them separate counters, phone lines, and a delivery fleet in excess of 12,190 vehicles. We also have a professional sales team, consisting of territory sales managers and in-store sales specialists, responsible for calling on our professional customers and building sound business partnerships that ensure O’Reilly is the First Call for their auto parts needs.
