Company Overview
LA BioMed is an independent, not-for-profit research institute with over 110 investigators and 600 scientists, trainees, technicians and administrative staff. In the 65 years since its founding, LA BioMed has made seminal contributions to Science and Medicine, including the modern serum cholesterol test, the creation and implementation of a training system for paramedics and the development of enzyme replacement therapy for lysosomal storage diseases. LA BioMed intellectual property has enabled the formation of 10 spin-off companies over the last 8 years. Its ecosystem for innovation occupies 11.5 acres on the Harbor-UCLA campus in Torrance, CA. The scientific infrastructure will be further enhanced with a new research tower, currently under construction, that will provide 80,000 sf of new laboratory, office and public space.
Company History
LA BioMed is a non-profit scientific research organization dedicated to saving lives not only in the greater Los Angeles metro area but throughout the world. The organization is located on the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Campus and affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Over the past six decades, LA BioMed’s physician-researchers have been responsible for some of the most important breakthroughs in medicine today. It is often said that “someday they will find a way.” When it comes to discovery science that drives medical breakthroughs, “they” are here at LA BioMed and “someday” is today.
