The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, a national, not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1994 by Harvard Business School Professor Michael E. Porter, an internationally recognized authority on competitive strategy. ICIC’s mission is to transform thinking, reinvigorate market forces, and engage the private sector in fostering healthy economies in America’s inner cities that create jobs, income, wealth and economic opportunities for local residents. ICIC seeks to accelerate the development and growth of inner-city based businesses and provides the public and private sectors with a market-driven vision for economic development in distressed urban areas.
