Incorporated on January 27, 1953, Buena Park is a Charter Law city operating under the council city-manager form of government. Five city council members serve as a legislative policy-making body. The city has approximately 400 employees with an annual budget of $105,255,920 (all funds).

The City of Buena Park is located in northwest Orange County, 21 miles southeast of Los Angeles, and is locally known as “the Center of the Southland” due to its easy access to both the 91 and 5 freeways. The City’s 10.2 square miles is home to over 80,000 residents and is rich with quality residential areas, excellent cultural and recreational facilities. Visitors delight in the City’s Entertainment Zone which includes Knott’s Berry Farm, Knott’s Soak City, Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament, and Pirates Dinner Adventure.

California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) for Miscellaneous (non-safety) Personnel: Effective December 22, 2012, all active members of Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) shall be under the 2% @ 60 retirement formula. Effective January 1, 2013, all new members to CalPERS shall be under the 2% at 62 retirement formula. Buena Park does not participate in Social Security.
