Company History

St. Jude Medical was founded in 1976 in St. Paul, Minnesota, as a pioneering manufacturer of bi-leaflet implantable mechanical heart valves. The company’s innovative heart valve design soon became the “gold standard” for mechanical heart valves.

Since the company’s first major acquisition of Pacesetter in 1994, St. Jude Medical has continued to grow into a global leader in cardiac and neurological device technology, broadening our product portfolio through internal development and strategic acquisitions.

Today, St. Jude Medical is dedicated to advancing the practice of medicine by reducing risk wherever possible and contributing to successful outcomes for every patient. The company now has four main technology platforms including atrial fibrillation, cardiac rhythm management, cardiovascular and neuromodulation. Wellness

Dental Care

This plan offers comprehensive coverage through a network of preferred dental care providers. St. Jude Medical plans pay the majority of the premium costs.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

We care about our employees and recognize that life’s changes can trigger stress. St. Jude Medical sponsors a free, professional and confidential service for employees and their dependents. Services include telephone information, problem assessment, short-term confidential counseling, referral if necessary and a 24-hour crisis line.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Lower your taxable income by reimbursing eligible, out-of pocket medical, dental and vision expenses on a pre-tax basis up to $2,500 a year. Also available is an account for dependent day care expenses.

LiveWell Program

As part of our effort to build a culture of health where each of our employees can contribute to their full potential, we offer free on-site health screenings and a free health assessment. We also provide free health coaching through a lifestyle improvement program.

Medical Care

Medical plans are available that provide coverage through a network of preferred physicians or you can select your own health care provider using out-of-network coverage. St. Jude Medical pays the majority of the premium costs.

Physical Fitness Program

Varies by location and division. St. Jude Medical pays a portion of your health club membership. Some locations have on-site fitness facilities.

Vision Care

This plan offers comprehensive coverage through a network of participating vision care providers. St. Jude Medical pays the majority of the premium costs.

Work/Life Balance

Disability Insurance

St. Jude Medical provides disability insurance to employees at no cost. Disability insurance pays a percentage of your base earnings if you are unable to work due to a non-work related illness or injury.

Employee Referral Bonus

Leave of Absence

We offer leaves of absence for the following reasons: military, personal and educational, bereavement and jury duty.

We proudly support our military personnel and pay a portion of the employees’ salary if they are on approved leave for qualified military purposes. We also provide other leaves under approved circumstances.

Paid Time Off - Vacation and Sick Leave

Employees earn time off with pay based on length of service at St. Jude Medical. A percentage of hours can be carried over from year to year. This time off can be used for vacation or sick leave.

Scholarship Program

Scholarships are awarded to children of St. Jude Medical employees for full-time study at an accredited education institution. The awards are based on a number of factors such as academic record, honors, etc.

Credit Union Services

Varies by location and division. Some locations offer financial services handled by a local credit union, including on-site automated teller machines, checking accounts, bankcards, and competitive interest rates.

Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)

ESPP enables employees to purchase our stock at a 15% discount of the fair market value by enrolling in a payroll deduction program. Fair market value refers to the value of the shares on the date the plan commences or the termination date of the plan, whichever is lower.

Retirement Savings - 401(k)

Take advantage of pre-tax or post-tax Roth contributions and gain additional contributions from St. Jude Medical. We match 100% of the first 3% of compensation that each employee elects to contribute on a pre-tax basis. Employees are eligible after one year of service and are 100% vested in company contributions after 5 years.
