Wage and Hour Compliance Manager

*This will be a virtual position, with travel throughout California. Weekly site visits will be required*

Job Summary:

The Wage and Hour Compliance Manager will be an important member of C&W Services Human Resources team reporting to the VP of HR. This position is responsible for ensuring implementation, compliance, and regular auditing of various wage and hour and labor laws. The position will work with the operations team to develop process and policy around various pay practices, including alternative work schedule applications and perform regular field audits to ensure adherence to those policies and with all State specific laws.

Job Description:

Primary scope and responsibilities:

  • Pay Rule Configuration: Establishes pay rule configuration consistent with the various wage and hour and labor laws, including Alternative Work Schedules in California. Provides regular training for the operations team regarding using the pay rules in daily scheduling of employees. Assists the operations team with proper payroll processing rules consistent with the alternative work schedules.
  • Pay Audit: Provides continual onsite audits to ensure proper pay rules are in place and followed to calculate overtime and pay employees correctly
  • AWS Audit: Ensures that all AWS rules are being followed at the sites, including requirements with respect to documenting schedules, notice of schedule changes, and general AWS governance. Works with managers to ensure that workplace transfers of employees are done properly and according to the AWS rules.
  • Meal and Rest Period Compliance: Provides regular training and ensures compliance with all California meal and rest break period laws at the proper times. Ensuring appropriate pay when employees are not provided their meal period, it is cut short or it is provided late.
  • Meal Period Waivers: Ensures properly documented meal period waivers are on file to protect the company when an employee is offered a meal or break period outside the requirements. Train personnel on their right to waive meal periods and collect waivers from personnel. Monitor the Kronos system to identify that electronic waivers are in place to assist managers in payroll management.
  • Paid Sick Leave: Tracks paid sick leave compliance according to counties within CA. Develop system to address the employee notice requirement and ability to carryover sick time where applicable
  • California Wage & Hour Compliance: Guides the business in compliance with California Wage and Hour regulations. Communicate to all managers and HR teams operating in CA about the laws, track and communicate changes, and ensure compliance.
  • Proactively partners with HR Business Partners to identify compensation issues and develop solutions that meet business needs, while supporting the company's compensation strategy.
  • Primary focus will be in California, with possible expansion to the entire US


  • Demonstrates strong business acumen and influencing skills as well as the ability to build credibility quickly.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently and take initiative to research and resolve questions/issues/concerns in a fast-paced, ever changing environment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple projects and a willingness to take on new responsibilities. Must be detail oriented, accurate, and highly organized.
  • Demonstrates excellent consultation skills and the ability to seek out information and work effectively with all levels of employees within the organization.
  • Demonstrates the ability to understand complex data and provide relevant interpretation of the data.



  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline, or the equivalent in related work experience.
  • Subject matter expertise in CA pay practices, laws and legislation.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in roles of increasing responsibilities within the compliance and compensation function, with an emphasis on Alternative Work Schedules
  • Experience as an Auditor preferred; Human Resources experience is a plus.
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs is preferred.
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of HR Systems, Workday and Kronos strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrates superior MS Excel and analytical skills; ability to work with large amounts of confidential data.
  • Demonstrates excellent project management skills and execution.
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of local, state, and federal compliance laws, including DOL, FLSA, and Alternative Work Schedules.
  • Weekly Travel
