We’re looking for a Learning & Development professional to take our training efforts to the next level.

This position will build strong relationships across the company’s growing network of stores, develop an in-depth understanding of our business, and work cross functionally to implement effective training approaches. The successful candidate will then direct the design, planning, and implementation of training programs to support Merchandising and Operations. Position is Assistant Director level and reports to Executive Director of Human Resources.


Collaborate with Merchandising and Operations management teams to assess ongoing and future training and development needs as well as effectiveness of established programs. Approve new training techniques and suggest enhancements to existing training programs. Oversee and establish relationships with vendors to provide additional outside training programs. Manage and develop training professionals.



  1. Utilize data-driven analysis to assess each department’s training effectiveness and assist in developing curriculum based on the analysis
  2. Plan and lead training programs on leadership development for Directors and District Managers.
  3. Design and/or lead training programs for Store Manager and ASM skill development.
  4. Create testing and evaluation procedures appropriate for use in ongoing departmental training.
  5. Ensure new employee orientation is designed, and delivered consistently, to foster positive attitude toward Village Super Market and our Purpose.
  6. Manage vendor relationships
  7. Monitor training costs to maintain the training budget.


The ideal candidate will have experience designing curriculum and deploying training approaches for retail associates. Requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.  Deep knowledge of Training and Development approaches and solid knowledge of the grocery industry preferred.

To be qualified for an interview, candidates MUST HAVE:

  • Experience with Training in a retail environment.
  • Experience developing training curricula.
  • Ability to lead and develop training teams.
  • Experience creating and managing training plans.
  • Available to travel 25% of schedule.
