Reporting to the Director of Talent & Organizational Development, the Talent & Organizational Development Specialist contributes to the overall success of University Services (US) by assisting with the maintenance of a comprehensive learning and development program for all University Services staff

Through collaboration with the Director, the specialist will design and deliver professional development curricula and strategies and assist with the implementation of the organization's diversity and inclusion plan

The specialist has a dual and secondary reporting responsibility to the Associate Director for Team and People in Campus Dining. The specialist will collaborate with the Associate Director to assess learning needs, customize, coordinate, and deliver learning and development programs, as well as to provide organizational development (OD) services to all levels of Campus Dining staff

This position is a three-year term, benefits eligible position

Talent Development

• With direction from the Director of Talent & Organizational Development:

o Assist with sustaining comprehensive curricula for learning and development programs for staff of all levels of hierarchy

o Contribute to an existing framework of professional development and mentoring programs

• Maintain relationships with stakeholders from all operational units to create customized learning opportunities

• Collaborate with Associate Director for Team and People (Campus Dining) as well as the University's Learning & Development (L&D) department on:

o Designing, delivering, and coordinating learning and development opportunities for Campus Dining

o Assisting with coordination of specialty programs

o Assist with the implementation of learning and development programs that emphasize human, technical, and conceptual skills for staff at all levels

o Work with the Associate Director for Team & People and Labor Relations Manager (Human Resources) on learning and development programs for Service Employees International Union (SEIU) members

o Serve as alternate to Associate Director for managing job posting and interview logistics for Campus Dining

• Work with Administrative Office Coordinator (Office of VP, US) and US leadership team to plan and coordinate resources (meeting space reservations, scheduling, printing, etc.)

• Serve as alternate content editor for University Services' portal on the University's Learning Management System (LEARN). Administrative Office Coordinator is the lead content editor for LEARN

• Serve as alternate to Administrative Office Coordinator for managing interview logistics for University Services' departments

Diversity & Inclusion Initiative

• With direction from the Director of Talent & Organizational Development:

o Facilitate, integrate and support diversity and inclusion unit plan initiatives; D&I Ambassador development and staff development; including cultural competency learning opportunities

o Work with Executive Assistant in the Office of Vice President to schedule outreach/debrief/feedback meetings

o Assist with oversight responsibilities and regularly attend DISC meetings; maintain communication with DISC Co-Chairs about goals and plans for the committee

o Collaborate with D&I Specialists (Human Resources) and the University's D&I Practitioners

Organizational Development

• Maintain organizational focus on University Services mission and values; Service Excellence, Efficiency & Effectiveness, Team and People; University Services' Customer Service vision

• Assist with the design and delivery of team-building and strategic planning retreats and facilitated discussions

• Assist with the administration of the Employee Recognition & Rewards (R&R) program and provide OD support to the R&R committee, D&I Steering Committee (DISC), Culture of Appreciation (CoA) working group, and Mentoring Program

• Coordinate with Director of Talent & Organizational Development to schedule Town Hall meetings and prepare content for each meeting

Other Duties as Assigned

• Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings, committee assignments, etc

• Works on special projects as assigned by Director of Talent & Organizational Development

• Project management of multi-session classes, new initiatives, OD consulting work, etc

• Some evening hours on a seasonal basis (1-3 days) each semester


Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  1. Bachelor's degree required
  2. Minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of professional experience, including at least two years of facilitation, instructional design, public speaking, and platform skills
  3. Experience working in a large-scale organization or educational institution
  4. Ability to teach audiences at all education levels
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of group/team dynamics and ability to manage group/team dynamics
  6. Sound judgment and creative/effective problem solving skills; thoughtfulness and attention to detail; self-reflective and strong work ethic
  7. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including sensitivity to the wants, needs, and concerns of constituents
  8. Exceptional oral, written, presentation, and communication skills
  9. Familiarity with various communication methods and platforms and ability to determine impact based on situation and audience
  10. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and tact
  11. Ability to multitask and prioritize demands while maintaining accuracy
  12. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  13. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Instructional design or facilitation skills certification
  2. Formal training in facilitation, instructional design, and experiential learning methods
  3. Experience in unionized environment
  4. Higher education or non-profit experience
  5. Knowledge of professional development standards (i.e., assessing learning needs, learning styles, building curricula, distinguishing between teaching and presenting)
  6. Bilingual or multilingual, with a preference for Spanish and Creole
  7. Experience with initiatives or programs to promote diversity and inclusion
