General Responsibilities

The Talent Acquisition & HR Generalist is part of the Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HR-STM) department and provides recruitment and general HR responsibilities for fundraising and advancement staff. Works closely with hiring managers and search committees on position descriptions, advertising venues, candidate sourcing and pre-screening, coordinating the interviewing process, negotiating salaries, and other related search processes. In addition, this position on-boards advancement staff, coordinates payroll, administers leave of absences, assists with the rollout and tracking of annual processes such as performance management, and assist with HR-STM strategic projects as needed.

Talent Acquisition (65%)

  • Establishes strong partnerships with hiring managers to develop an understanding of Resource Development. Partners with hiring managers to identify ideal candidate profiles, crafts job descriptions, and provides hiring guidance throughout the recruitment process.
  • Proactively and continually sources candidates; develops pipelines of candidates, build relationships with external and internal applicants to communicate opportunities and foster leads.
  • Serves as primary communication point with candidates, from contact to offer; provides managers feedback on candidates; ensures timely coordination of candidate movement throughout the search process.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with search firms and temp agencies, serving as relationship manager and liaison; advises managers on cost-effective approaches to working with vendors.
  • Effectively sources candidates using a variety of methods, including sourcing, social media, job boards, and referrals. Responsible for successful candidate interviews and effectively presenting best-qualified candidates, coordinating interviews, and delivering offers to fill positions.
  • Builds and develops a candidate pipeline through research and prospecting. Identifies prospective candidates by selling MIT. Builds and grows local, regional, and national network of professional colleagues; attends relative job fairs, participates in professional organizations; and strengthens reputation of MIT as a leader in the advancement field and an employer of choice. 
  • Responsible for developing recruitment reports, statistics, and metrics for recruitment activities; provides analysis of data and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintains complete and accurate Applicant Tracking for AAP and EEOC data reporting requirements.
  • Conducts onboarding activities for new hires.
  • Provides talent acquisition metrics as appropriate. 

Generalist Responsibilities (35%)

  • Provides periodic training on the recruitment process to managers and search committees, including legal aspects of interviewing and best hiring practices.
  • Coordinates and approves weekly payroll. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of pay policies and procedures. Liaise with the HR Payroll Service Center to resolve issues that arise concerning weekly pay. Trains hourly staff on time card entry and time card system, trains new managers and act as resource on Manager Approved Payroll process.
  • Interprets and administers employee FMLA leaves and communicates with employees, managers and MIT Central HR to ensure adherence to applicable federal and state employment laws.
  • Administers Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) for RD staff.
  • Tracks annual processes such as performance management and outside professional.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Bachelor’s degree required. At least five years of relevant HR experience, including successful direct recruitment experience required. Demonstrated experience in the use of social media in recruitment; building diverse talent pools, and solid understanding of compensation preferred. Outstanding customer service, communications, interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Proactive style, organizational savvy, and demonstrated experience in a fast-paced, high volume environment. The ideal candidate is able to manage competing demands effectively; able to take on new challenges and receive constructive feedback, while remaining agile, creative, and professional at all times. Experience in advancement or higher education highly desired.
