Star Tribune is looking to fill its senior leadership role in Human Resources.  The SVP, Human Resources is responsible for developing and executing Human Resource strategies, policies and programs for Star Tribune Media Company.  Major areas include organizational effectiveness, talent management, employee and labor relations, compensation and benefits.  Reporting directly to the Publisher and CEO, the SVP HR is a key member of the Star Tribune Senior Leadership team in setting the direction and vision of the organization, with particular emphasis on the impact to talent.

Key results/responsibilities:

  • Leads the Human Resources function, ensuring programs and services are provided that translate business strategy to talent strategy
  • Plans, develops, directs and evaluates HR strategies, principles, policies and objectives for Star Tribune Media Company
  • Leads strategic talent planning efforts, including talent acquisition and retention, performance management, learning and development initiatives, and succession management to support Star Tribune’s ongoing success
  • Enhances/develops, implements and enforces HR policies and procedures of the organization that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization
  • Selects and coordinates use of Human Resources consultants, insurance brokers, insurance carriers, benefit administrators, training specialists, outside counsel, and other outside sources
  • Maintains knowledge of HR policies, programs, laws and issues; protects interests of employees and company in accordance with company Human Resources policies and governmental laws and regulations
  • Manages budget and other financial measures of HR function

Requirements

  • 10+ years' leadership experience; experience managing an HR function
  • HR functional expertise: broad knowledge of talent management, organizational development, employee and labor relations, compensation and total rewards
  • B.S. degree or equivalent, preferably in a business or HR-related field
  • Multi-union experience
  • SHRM or HRCI certification preferred
  • Solid business and financial acumen
  • Superior interpersonal skills; influential, tactful, flexible
