Position Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist performs a variety of professional and administrative work in human resources, such as employee relations, recruitment, and training & development.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions.
  • Recruits, interviews, and selects employees to fill vacant positions.
  • Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals. This includes preparation of offer letters and benefit summaries.
  • Keeps records of benefits plans participation such as insurance and pension plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  • Assists with training management in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment. Assists with coordination of outside training as applicable.
  • Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Ensures consistent application of disciplinary process, documentation, and participates in proceedings.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, pension plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance. Provides appropriate guidance regarding leaves and other benefit issues.
  • Manages Worker's Compensation process and tracking claims. Investigates accidents and prepares reports for insurance carrier.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  • Assists with payroll functions

Education and/or Experience:                                            

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, a concentration in HR management preferred; three to five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities:                                                                       

This job has no supervisory responsibilities

Language Skills:                                          

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and the general public.

Computer Skills:                                                     

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Human Resource systems and be proficient with the Internet and payroll systems; Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.
