Title:  Sr. HR Generalist

Reports To: Vice President, People & Culture

FLSA Status: Exempt


Position Overview

The Sr. HR Generalist is responsible to support the People & Culture Team in all areas of the HR function. This role will have three primary areas of focus: (1) providing general support in all areas of the HR function.   This includes policies & practices including compliance, benefits (health & welfare and retirement plans ) and leave management. (2) coaching and counseling of talents and managers regarding performance, career development, training and recruitment; and developing initiatives and programs in these areas, and (3) participation in merger and acquisition activities including HR due diligence and integration.  In addition, this position will support one or more Association Clients with direct HR needs in the areas of HR, payroll and benefits.

Primary Duties

  • Provides daily support to employees by responding to inquiries about MCI USA policies, practices, benefits, and general questions.
  • Assists in the research, development and implementation of HR policies and practices, including updating the Talent Handbook to meet Federal, state and local laws and current trends and practices.
  • Supports the recruitment process through job postings, preparation of offer letters and other functions as needed.
  • Conducts New Hire onboarding, and ensures a positive onboarding experience for new hires. Participates in development of new ideas and practices in new hire onboarding.
  • Conducts exit interview process for various locations and documents trends to share and act on key findings.
  • Designs surveys to encourage staff engagement and participation.
  • Supports benefit plan actions and open enrollment, provides guidance to employees on understanding our benefits.
  • Coach and counsel managers and employees on issues related to employee development, performance management, succession planning, HR policy and practice interpretation and other general HR issues.
  • Consults with managers to develop effective documentation for performance improvement/disciplinary documents.
  • Participating in and developing expertise in due diligence and integration activities.
  • Develops process improvements within the internal structure of the People & Culture team to increase efficiencies.
  • Ability to understand problems in the context of the bigger picture and influential relationships as well as the overall industry and marketplace in which MCI USA operates.
  • Strong drive for results to lead and facilitate efforts to ensure human resources alignment with the business units and group functions.
  • Ability to serve as a trusted advisor dealing directly with our talents to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change.
  • Lead or participate in company-wide initiatives including, but not limited to mergers and acquisitions, HR and business transformation projects as well as lead, support and sustain change. 
  • Association Clients: provides direct support to association management clients, including payroll, HR, retirement plan and other benefits. Interfaces direct with client leaders and client employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Sr. HR Generalist should possess 5-8 years of progressive human resources experience. 

  • Must demonstrate empathy; the ability to communicate persuasively; and have prior experience inspiring trust, confidentiality and candor. Sensitivity to diversity, organizational dynamics, issues of confidentiality; and excellent attention to detail are essential.
  • Strong listening, oral/presentation, written communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstration of good judgment in difficult environments.
  • Proven skills in coaching and performance management would be ideal.
  • Flexible and organized with the ability to deal with many different personalities, competing priorities and the pressure of meeting deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Clear understanding of client service and working effectively as a member of a team and independently.
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Proactive, assertive professional who is influential with political acumen.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, foster and sustain collaborative working relationships at all levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and to successfully complete multiple tasks in required time frames.
  • Strong computer efficiency a must, with particular knowledge of HR Systems, Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. (Paycom experience would be helpful.)


The Sr. HR Generalist should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management with related studies in Human Resources or a Bachelor’s Degree in HR Management. HR Certification is desirable, but not required. 


Willing and able to travel to different company sites and merger & acquisition target locations.
