BACKGROUND/ GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 

 

Driven by the need for more effective succession planning and building talent pipelines, the World Bank Group created a Global Center of Expertise to focus on Career and Talent Management. The Career Management Center of Expertise (CoE) leads the design and implementation of the career framework, along with the World Bank Group’s Talent Management program, Career Services offerings and Executive Resources.

The work on career initiatives at the World Bank Group is not a one-size-fits-all, but is rather based on a very client-oriented approach: Clients define the business need(s) they seek to address with any career initiative, programs or tools, and they take great ownership in developing them. This approach leads in turn to a modus operandi where the CoE’s career management team has to attend different clients and parts of the WBG, providing consultancy, guidance, support and analysis in order to develop and implement custom-fit career solutions and programs together with clients and stakeholders.

After having successfully designed and implemented a comprehensive Career Guide with the Operations part of the World Bank Group, the team has been approached by numerous other clients with the need of developing career frameworks and programs in other parts of the World Bank Group. The CoE is searching for a Short-term consultant to support the career framework team in the design, development and implementation of these career frameworks. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Consultant will report to the Program Manager and will also work with the other HR Specialists and Business Partners in coordinating, planning and implementation of the different career framework initiatives. Essentially, the role will be focused on:

  • Analyzing business needs to determine best fit career tools and related initiatives.

  • Analyzing skill and competencies needs through in-depth interviews and focus groups to design competencies as needed.

  • Collect staff perspectives on career-related issues (analyzing engagement survey results and gathering direct feedback from staff).

  • Preparing career tools and programs for roll-out in the client’s departments and units.

  • Preparing material for career panels, management and staff engagement.

  • Organizing and preparing meetings with stakeholders, career panels, management and focus groups. 

Requirements

•Master’s degree, or equivalent professional experience; typically, the successful candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in Human Resources.

•Solid understanding of human resources management policies and best practices; experience working on career and talent management is preferred.


•Strong analytical skills; demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis; able to articulate issues and recommend solutions to aid management in decision-making.


•Sense of integrity, ability to hold professional/ethical line and beliefs in face of pressure and/or a demanding client base.


•Ability to see the big picture, think strategically, make connections regarding trends and issues using judgment as well as being able to deliver the details.


•Consulting skills, including the ability to interact on sensitive issues with senior management.


•Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.


•Excellent team and collaborative skills across boundaries, within HR and beyond.


•Excellent communication and presentation skills.
