The Senior Manager, Compensation manages REI’s compensation team and related programs. This position leads and develops a team of experienced compensation professionals to ensure the company’s compensation programs align with the co-op’s compensation philosophy and needs of the business while remaining market competitive. Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, guidelines, procedures, and legal compliance. 

Reporting to the Director of Total Rewards and Shared Services, the Senior Manager of Compensation provides both tactical and strategic support to senior leaders and the Compensation Committee related to executive compensation, incentive plan design and other pay programs. 

Candidates for this job will the following experiences and skills: executive compensation and Compensation Committee support, variable pay program design and administration, comprehensive base pay administration, consultation to HR business partners and other internal stakeholders, and a focus on compliance and operational excellence.


Bring your passion and expertise

  • 8-10 years of experience and deep expertise in a blend of Compensation Management functions including executive compensation, incentive program design & management, salary administration, regulatory compliance, salary surveys, annual performance/merit process, HR systems support, reorganizations, reporting and analytics, and change management. 
  • 5+ years of experience leading people and teams with a proven ability in developing staff to propel both business results and personal development. 
  • Proven ability to manage large projects, translate goals and complex processes into manageable components and complete projects, involving internal personnel, contractors and vendors, on time, on budget and with excellent quality Proven ability to influence groups and individuals to move in a desired direction, build productive working relationships and effectively negotiate in all levels of the organization, including senior management. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development or Business or equivalent experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results through flawless program management, ideally in a client-facing, change management, or consulting role, with strong analytical skills and the ability to translate metrics, research, and trends into strategy. 
  • Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals. 
  • Flexible in one's viewpoints and positions in order to support the direction taken by others at REI. 
  • Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities.
  • Consolidates information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisions. 
  • Considers the ultimate impact of decisions and actions on internal and external customers. 
  • Works smart by setting effective work goals, establishing priorities, and planning well in order to produce quality work. 
  • Executes effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress toward goals.
