General Purpose: Reporting to the Associate Director of Labor Relations, serve as the key labor relations professional for Local 34 and Cedarhurst Teacher’s union. Provide support and guidance to HR colleagues, University managers, and staff on labor relations matters, including advise on contractual implications in reorganizations, downsizing, and other operational changes, ensure compliance with labor agreements and the NLRA rules and regulations, deliver manager training, and advise on complex employee relations matters. Support bargaining. Proactively inform and manage relationships with union leaders. Manage all aspects of grievance process including information responses, settlements, and support to the University’s advocate in arbitration cases. Assist in gathering information and preparing responses to CHRO, EEOC, Unemployment and other government agency claims. 


Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree and five years of professional human resources experience or an equivalent education or experience in a closely related field



  • Excellent critical and strategic thinking ability. Proven ability to direct and influence change. Ability to collaborate with leaders to drive change in the culture and management practices.
  • Knowledge of at least two of the following areas of HR: staffing, compensation, employment law, labor relations, training and development, benefits and HRIS applications.
  • Superior customer service orientation and ability to respond in a constructive and timely manner. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to initiate actions and solve problems using sound judgment. Ability to work effectively with a diverse population. Ability to work with changing priorities in a high volume environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases and experience working with HRP software.
  • Preferred Education and Experience: Master's Degree. Three to five years labor management relations experience including contract administration and negotiations, grievance and arbitration management. Experience working with union leaders.
