The Olympic Club is seeking a Senior Human Resources Manager.


The Olympic Club, established in 1860, is a private member athletic club in San Francisco. With over 10,000 current members, 6000 of whom are active, The Olympic Club members enjoy the amenities and services of 2 properties in San Francisco, The Olympic Club at Lakeside and the City Clubhouse.


 

Overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean, The Olympic Club at Lakeside sits on the border of Daly City and San Francisco. Lakeside was host to the 1955, 1966, 1987, 1998, 2012 US Open Championships, the 1958, 1981 and 2007 US Amateur Championships, 2015 Inaugural Four Ball Championship and will host the upcoming 2021 US Women's Open Championship.  The Olympic Club at Lakeside has two championship golf courses, the Lake and Ocean, and one par three course, the Cliffs. Along with world renowned golf courses, Lakeside also offers members a tennis facility with eight lit courts, including two clay courts and a beautiful Clubhouse overlooking the 18th green of the Lake course. The Clubhouse offers two dining facilities, locker rooms, a fitness center with lap pool and banquet facilities.  It hosts over 700 member events each year including crab feeds, private parties, father/daughter events, weddings and memorials.


The City Clubhouse is home to 18 hotel rooms, 3 restaurants; a formal dining room, a sports bar/upscale restaurant and a grab and go café, a formal bar, banquet event space, 2 pools, 1 hot tub, 2 gymnasiums, state of the art athletic facilities, squash and handball courts, fitness classrooms, massage, upscale locker rooms, wellness center, etc.



 

The Olympic Club employs over 520 staff between both properties and has collective bargaining agreements with three unions. The Clubhouse staff including Front Office, Housekeeping, Laundry, Culinary, Stewarding and Food and Beverage are members of UNITE HERE! Local 2.  Our Engineering team is covered under the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 39 and our Golf Maintenance Greenkeepers and Mechanics are covered under the SEIU-USWW contract.

Position Overview:

 

The Olympic Club Senior Human Resources Manager is part of a four-person Human Resources team which includes a Director, an HR Manager and an HR Associate. Together, we are responsible for strategic planning, legal compliance, labor relations and employee relations, workforce hiring and development, benefits administration (healthcare, worker’s compensation, leaves of absence and wellness) and Safety/CalOsha compliance. The Olympic Club has two campuses: the City Clubhouse in downtown San Francisco and the Lakeside campus on the border of Daly City and San Francisco. The Senior Human Resources Manager will spend time at both campuses each week in a shared office/workspace. We employ approximately 520+ employees, in total, which includes staff in Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, Front Office, Golf Maintenance, Golf Operations, Engineering, Athletics, Tennis, Administration, etc.



Position Summary:

The Senior Human Resources Manager will act in place of the Human Resources Director when called upon to do so, and must be comfortable with this level of responsibility and decision making. The primary, day-to-day responsibilities include being the resident expert in Recruiting, Labor Relations, Employee Relations, Investigations and Training and Development. We are seeking candidates with strong backgrounds and proven success in each of these areas to join our HR team. While primary duties will be focused in these four areas, secondary duties will include responsibilities in operational efficiencies, leaves of absence, benefits administration, worker’s compensation and employee events, as well as any additional accountabilities which fall under the purview of the Human Resources Department.


Essential functions and responsibilities:

The Senior Human Resources Manager is an exempt position with both tactical (50%) and strategic (50%) primary responsibilities in the following areas:

 

  • Revising and implementing 2018 recruiting plan for exempt, non-exempt and union positions; sourcing and interviewing candidates; making offers and strengthening partnerships with local colleges and community agencies

  • Development and training of staff including: new manager orientation; leadership principles; interviewing skills; establishing standards and accountability; progressive discipline; understanding union contracts; safety/CalOsha compliance; job based skills training; policy and procedure training, etc.

  • Primary point of contact for all labor relations issues including: employee and union concerns and grievance; Club representative in mediations and arbitrations; management lead in labor-management committee and interest based bargaining; at-the-table negotiator for three CBA’s.

  • Primary HR position for addressing, investigating and resolving employee issues in compliance with Federal, State and Local laws and regulations, OC employee handbook and collective bargaining agreements, as appropriate.

             

Secondary responsibilities include:

 

  • Assists with leaves of absence administration, benefits orientations, worker’s compensation and safety programs.

  • Additional responsibilities and duties as requested or assigned by the Human Resources Director.

  • Regular attendance required based on business expectations and needs.

  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws, safety regulations and guidelines, Olympic Club bylaws and house rules, Club policies and procedures and Union contracts.

             

 

 

Requirements

 

 Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalency in Human Resources, Psychology, Labor Relations or related field.

  • Minimum 8 years senior level exempt Human Resources management experience in a union environment, preferably in hospitality.

  • Extensive experience in labor relations within a labor/management partnership including: contract interpretation and training; investigating and resolving grievances; contract negotiations; interest based bargaining/problem solving, etc.

  • Widespread experience in investigations of all kinds including claims of harassment, discrimination, disciplinary, as well as responding to agency claims.

  • Broad experience in interviewing and recruiting both in the traditional setting as well as via social media, websites, etc.

  • Knowledge of Federal, State and San Francisco employment laws required.

  • Knowledge of and experience in Administration of Benefits and Leaves of Absence, FMLA/CFRA, PDL, ADAAA, ACA, etc. highly preferred.

  • Must be able to commute regularly between both campuses including commuting between campuses on the same day. Must be able to split worksites each week and be willing to occasionally share workspace.

  • Flexible schedule required. Willing and able to work occasional weekends, evenings and early mornings based on business needs.

 

 

Qualifications Desired:

  • Additional written and verbal communication skills in Spanish highly desired.

  • HR Certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM or similar) preferred.

  • Experience implementing and/or working with ATS, HRIS or HCM software

  • Experience with Paylocity helpful.

  • Must present polished and professional image and demeanor representative of The Olympic Club in all situations

  • Demonstrated ability to model expected behavior of a manager in Human Resources

  • Highly organized. Able to prioritize and successfully juggle multiple duties and tasks in a shared office/workspace.

  • Problem analysis and resolution at functional and strategic levels.

  • Excellent communicator in writing, by phone and in person.
