The Role:

The HR Generalist Role covers a broad range of HR functional tasks, with both specialty roles and generalist responsibilities. The specialty areas within the HR function include Employee Relations, Hourly Staffing, Records Administration, Benefits and Compensation Administration, Harvest HR Operations and Employee Services & Company Events. Working under the Human Resources Manager and with the HR Team members, to actively contribute to programs and processes in a variety of areas.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Employee Relations / Employee Services & Events

  • Assists the HR Manager with investigation and documentation of employee concerns and performance management issues, including evaluating disciplinary actions, written warnings, suspensions and dismissals by utilizing an established set of HR tools and methodologies.
  • Facilitate communication between employees and management by conducting focus groups, round table discussions and plant visits.
  • Interprets, educates and provides support and counsel on HR policies as necessary; ensures fair and consistent application of company policies, procedures, federal and state laws.
  • Conduct employee relations plant visits:
    • Provide summary and recommended action plans to area management.
    • Follow up to ensure issues were resolved and report on the follow up actions (create follow up timeline/reporting process).
  • Partners closely with HR Manager to resolve employee relations quickly and advise of appropriate corrective action.
  • Assists with conducting voluntary and involuntary terminations; collecting and compiling appropriate data for analysis.
  • Responsible for scheduling and coordinating company events, for example:
    • Christmas Party
    • Company Picnic
    • Winter gift boxes
    • Admin gifts
  • Responsible for Roll Giving process.
  • Generate, track and review 90 days evaluations.
  • Respond to subpoenas.
  • Conduct manager/supervisor training.
  • Process EDD response forms and appeals related to employee terminations and UI determinations.
  • Prepare for and attend UI appeals hearings.

Hourly Staffing & Records Administration

  • Responsible for the overall functions related to data entry and HRIS audits.
  • Facilitate hourly new hire orientations/onboarding.
  • Responsible for on-site temporary employee process:
    • Communicate with on-site reps regarding needs or concerns
    • Communicate with supervisors regarding need for temp employees
    • Create standardized temp agency audit process (I-9, drug testing, eligible to work at WP&A, invoices)
    • Generate, track and send weekly reports to all temp agencies
  • Support layoff/recall process -- work with employee relations.
  • Generate and track seasonal to full-time evaluations.
    • Provide HR manager monthly list of evaluations not turned in
    • Open communication with benefits specialist regarding who is eligible for seasonal to full-time orientations
  • Develop and populate turnover reports.

 

Compensation & Benefits Administration

  • Assist the HRM during the annual performance and merit review process to ensure accurate implementation and timely completion.
  • Manage and administer employee benefits plans, leave of absence process and wellness initiatives.
  • Assist in responding and resolving employee medical insurance billing & utilization questions & concerns.
  • Process and track short and long term disability.
  • Process disability and life insurance claims.
  • Assist with 401K process as needed.
  • Add new hires and delete terminate employees monthly in GTL, Voluntary Life and 401K systems.
  • Schedule, track and facilitate monthly seasonal to full-time orientations (select reoccurring week & day).
  • Process and track tuition reimbursement requests.
  • Responsible for Wellness event coordination (work with Wellness Center).
  • Assist employment verifications and process EDD benefits audits (DE 2503 & 2503F) and court mandated dependent insurance enrollments.
  • Back up for workers' comp process.

 

OTHER DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Generate ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Harvest duties as assigned.
  • Any other duties assigned.

Requirements

Here's what you will bring to the table:
 

Language skills

  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in both English and Spanish.
  • Excellent communications skills dealing with all levels of employees.
  • Able to deliver small group and large group presentations.

Mathematical skills

  • Must be able to perform technical calculations, assemble data in charts and graphs, and manage budgets.
  • Proficient in software tools: word processing / spreadsheets / presentations.

Reasoning ability

  • Must be able to manage several assignments simultaneously. Problem solving skills are essential to this position.
  • Must be able to handle extremely confidential and sensitive information.

Computer skills

  • Basic word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software skills required, as well as familiarity with internet searches.

 

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year institution desired.
  • 5-6 yrs experience as an HR generalist, preferably in a medium to large manufacturing company environment.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Employee Relations / Employment Law seminars
  • PHR/SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP preferred but not required

  • Demonstrated project management experience leading cross-departmental teams.
  • Comfortable working with diverse groups of people with competing needs.
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to analyze a situation consider all options and anticipate outcomes before providing recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that ensure positive, productive relationships are formed with clients and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality customer service.
  • Links operational improvements to overall targets
  • Executes tracking systems to monitor impact of specific initiatives, implements countermeasure plans

 

FUNCTIONAL

  • Trainer level on maintenance planning and PM/CM concepts and tasks (specifically PDCA and standard work)
  • Captures required cost/benefit data to evaluate ideas.
  • Basic reading and math skills to create and track work orders as well as calculate material quantities and measurements.
  • Able to execute implementation plans.
  • Creates solid cost/benefit analyses to evaluate ideas.
  • Understands technical skills necessary for all tasks

 

COMPLIANCE

  • Observes all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) as specified by the Company's food safety policy.
  • Must report to work on a regular and timely basis and be able to work overtime when needed.
  • Consistently demonstrates safe work behaviors and actively supports Company's safety goals.
  • Support policies and procedures established by the Company.
  • Is prepared to perform any additional assignments as directed by supervisor on needed basis.
