The Senior Benefits & HRIS Specialist is responsible for administering and overseeing the day to day operations of all employee benefits programs, retirement plan administration and HRIS programs for the American College of Cardiology (ACC). This position reports to the Sr. Director, Human Resources and plays a key role in the design, management and execution of human resources programs related to employee benefits, HRIS data management, HR compliance and audit. The Senior Specialist will review and evaluate Benefit plans for quality, cost-effectiveness, compliance, market competitiveness and employee satisfaction. He/she will investigate new benefit programs, improve existing programs and monitor day-to-day benefits administration. This person will also lead the implementation and enhancement of Benefit/HRIS systems and monitor ongoing effectiveness and efficiencies, and provide analytical and technical support in the delivery of all programs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to day administration of all benefit programs, including health and welfare benefits and retirement plan. 
  • Manage day-to-day relationship with outsourced benefits administration vendor and benefits carriers.
  • Serve as in-house resource for employees for escalated questions regarding ACC benefit programs
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners to support employee benefits needs
  • Manage annual open enrollment and employee wellness initiatives
  • Participate in and actively contribute in benefit plan design and annual benefit plan renewal discussions with internal resources and external consultants and vendors
  • Lead annual 403(b) audit process.
  • Lead management of the HRIS database and entire reporting system and coordination with payroll department.
  • Support compensation program administration; develop and distribute reports; assist with data analysis.
  • Work with the HRBPs and HR Associate in conducting orientation for all new hires
  • Stay current on laws, regulations, and plan design trends ensuring that the organization’s policies and programs conform and are competitive.
  • Partner with Sr. Director, HR to ensure ERISA, HIPAA, ACA and other benefits law compliance requirements are met
  • Accountable for accurate and timely benefits program administration. Ensure that benefits programs are administered in compliance to the established Human Resource policies, programs, and practices
  • Prepare and maintain regular and ad hoc reports on benefits statistics for senior management
  • Administer salary surveys and other HR-related surveys.
  • Oversee employment verifications, unemployment insurance and workers’ compensation.
  • Recommend policy and program changes.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • 5+ years of experience in Human Resources, including a strong background in benefits administration, retirement plans, and hands-on HRIS experience with data input and reports
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects
  • Strong working knowledge and application of relevant laws and regulations (EEO/AAP, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, ERISA, Title VII, COBRA, etc.)
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including proficiency with Excel spreadsheets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; team player; strong customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage change and be flexible
  • Good presentation/facilitation skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • PHR and Master’s Degree desired
  • Experience leading or participating in an HRIS implementation.
  • Prior experience with ADP Workforce Now
