Human Resources
The Human Resources (HR) Department within Pew is comprised of the following main functions: Talent Acquisition, Business Partnership/Employee Relations, Talent Management, Development and Internal Communications, and Compensation, Benefits and HRIS. The department provides strategic support to the business by aligning its priorities and service delivery with the needs of the organization, providing expertise and leadership in each functional area, and serving as an internal consultant to help drive results

A team of skilled professionals currently provides HR services to approximately 1000 distributed staff. HR's focus is to lead the recruitment of highly talented staff; build an environment committed to two-way communication, staff development, growth and retention; offer a competitive compensation and benefits package; and foster a respectful, collaborative culture in which staff are well-supported to achieve results. This includes developing, implementing and maintaining best practices in the areas of: talent acquisition; organizational design, staff development, performance and talent management; employee relations; compliance; and compensation and benefits. To support the business, HR is comprised of approximately 27 staff with representation in both Philadelphia and Washington, DC to provide in-depth expertise to clients

Position Overview
The Senior Associate will serve as the lead on Pew's medical leave programs and will be responsible for guiding staff through the leave process and coordinating with Pew's leave vendor for both family and short-term disability leaves. The position is also responsible for providing benefits expertise to assist in the strategy, design, delivery and maintenance of the benefit program. The senior associate serves as a liaison with vendors, answers staff questions and resolves benefits related issues. They also are responsible for Workday benefits functionality, reporting and auditing, eligibility and census file interfaces, benefits budgeting, and communication of all benefits through trainings, open enrollment, and new hire orientations. Ensures compliance with all laws

Benefits

  • Administer medical leave of absence program. Serve as employer liaison with leave vendors and staff requesting leave under salary continuation benefit for both family and short-term disability leaves
  • Maintain strong understanding of the legal requirements, implications of laws, and Pew's policies in overseeing employee leave of absence benefits
  • Support the administration of all healthcare and retirement plans including: medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, 401(k), 457(b) and flexible spending accounts
  • Manage the education and programs for the 401(k) plan, health savings accounts, wellness benefits
  • Support the review and analysis of annual renewal information, cost sharing approach, and post-retirement medical benefit
  • Serve as benefits liaison for the Pew Research Center
  • Assist in the administration of Pew's Global Benefits programs
  • Assist with the open enrollment timeline, communications plan, designing open enrollment materials and conducting open enrollment meetings
  • Serve as customer support contact for staff as needed to resolve benefits related issues
  • Monitor the effectiveness of existing benefits policies, processes, and procedures recommending revisions as needed
  • Perform analysis and regular benefits reporting for management and senior leaders

HRIS

  • Support the development and maintenance of Workday for all benefits functionality including enrollment, dependents/beneficiaries, EOI, leave of absences, FMLA, etc
  • Become technical expert in Workday benefits system and use expertise to drive system performance
  • Assist IT department's Workday team with configurations for annual open enrollment process and complete all required testing
  • Collaborate with IT and payroll to ensure all integrations work properly and that benefits functionality in Workday is accurate
  • Develop and provide support for benefits report requests and benefits metrics
  • Perform routine benefits audits on data in the Workday
  • Approve benefits system tasks and perform data entry as needed


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of four years of experience in benefits, leave administration and HRIS function
  • HRIS experience required, Workday software experience preferred
  • Strong MS Office skills including Excel and Word are required. Excel skills include the ability to conduct V-Lookups and knowledge of the preparation and execution of pivot tables for more complex data analysis
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to employee benefit plans including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, IRS regulations, FMLA and Workers' Compensation
  • Must be able to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations, and plan of action
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and represent ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Familiarity with benefits strategies, all related laws and best practices required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with prior experience in positions requiring communication with a broad and diverse audience
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Willing and able to adjust to multiple demands, shifting and competing priorities, and demonstrate flexibility
  • CEBS, PHR, SHRM-CP or work toward certification preferred
