Modine Manufacturing is seeking a Regional Human Resources Manager.  This individual will develop, implement, monitor, direct and audit activities, programs, policies and procedures affecting plant salaried, hourly employees.  This individual will maintain positive employee relations climate at all Company facilities.  This individual will maintain non-union status at all locations.  This individual will supervise Human Resources staff in all locations and provide advice and counsel to operations managers, plant managers and plant staff in all areas of Human Resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise, develop, and performance manage location HR teams
  • Provide on-going counsel to HR Managers, Plant Managers, and Corporate Operations Staff on all aspects of employee relations
  • Coordinate with the HR Director to craft Americas organization-wide strategies and objectives
  • Drive the Modine safety culture in each location, including focus on recordable incident rate (RIR) reduction and Behavioral Based Safety (BBS)
  • Monitor and audit employee hiring, orientation, promotion, transfer, layoff (WARN Act compliance), recall job evaluation, recognition programs, benefits, and other day to day activities affecting hourly employees
  • Handle dispute resolution with charging agencies including EEOC, NLRB, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, worker's compensation and employee civil suits.  Research issues, develop company position and advise plants or communicate directly with charging agency.  Assist in presentation of company cases at hearings.  Testify in court cases as needed.  Work independently and in conjunction with internal legal counsel or engage outside counsel, depending on case and schedule availability
  • Investigate and respond to Ethics Hotline complaints, mentoring HR Managers on investigation practices and resolution actions
  • Direct preparation of employee handbooks/policies at all facilities and ensure proper administration and compliance
  • Review proposed changes and provide feedback and recommendations on all plant hourly benefit changes in conjunction with Corporate Benefits including pensions, 401(k) plans, life insurance, holidays, vacation, short-term disability, etc.
  • Maintain existing union-free environments and eliminate need for unions by monitoring all plant policies and procedures to ensure fair and consistent application.  Support periodic engagement survey initiatives and monitor feedback to employees, as well as management action plans
  • Complete semi-annual "Go & See" visits to each plant location, validating compliance to local and federal laws and regulations, reviewing plant policies and procedures, and soliciting feedback from salaried and hourly plant employees to ensure a positive plant culture exists
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection efforts for salaried plant positions and coordinate transfers between plant and/or corporate.  Work with managers to identify and define specific new hire requirements, recommend internal and external candidates for further consideration, provide functional direction and review of local hiring.  Assist with succession planning efforts
  • Review for consistent application of policy and approve all Change of Status (COS) forms for plant salaried employees, as well as all salaried employee requisitions
  • Review serious disciplinary matters to include recommendations and/or final approval on all hourly and salaried terminations
  • Ensure that all local compensation programs are competitive with local market conditions
  • Provide due diligence and HR integration support during acquisitions and plant start-ups
  • Assist with research and make recommendations for potential plant closures.  Coordinate HR related closure activities
  • Identify needed training in areas of Employee Relations/Human Resources training (i.e., harassment, workplace violence, union avoidance, etc.) and coordinate with Corporate Training to ensure delivery as appropriate
  • Analyze business plan and work with management to identify and plan for Human Resources requirements to meet short and long-term business needs.  Assist with review and approve annual plant employee/labor relations strategies
  • Support client group and project work for Racine headquarters location

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or similar, or a business related field.  Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of broad HR experience
  • Experience at the manufacturing plant level, with multi-site management experience a plus
  • Understanding of full cycle recruiting
  • Good knowledge of local labor regulations
  • Strong project management skills; ability to lead projects at a network level to influence and obtain buy-in, and then drive execution and achievement of the right results
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

TRAVEL:

  • 10-15% travel is required to various plant locations with flexible scheduling
