The Compensation Analyst performs compensation salary analysis, conducts classification studies, develops compensation reports, and handles wage implementations. Has the ability to create dashboards, score cards, and executive presentations. This position interfaces with human resources colleagues and designated campus clients/departments. Involves developing, implementing and administering compensation policies and programs. Reviews job evaluation requests and proposals, and provides advice on job evaluation, position management, and position salary-setting. Services include design, analysis, implementation and maintenance compensation programs and pay structures. Provide in-depth analysis of data to provide guidance on the overall compensation strategy to achieve workforce stability. Conducts analysis on internal and external salary statistics; reviews, audits and analyzes positions, including job descriptions; prepares cost analysis reports. Partners or take a lead role with the Office of the President on internal and campus-wide initiatives. The incumbent provides guidance to executives, directors, managers, and employees regarding compensation issues involving the interpretation and application of compensation management policies, guidelines, and procedures.

Conducts benchmarking, performs data analysis and formulates recommendations, to ensure competitive, cost-effective, and legally compliant compensation programs and practices. Conducts special market studies, where appropriate, to validate or establish competitive pay strategies for specific jobs. Conducts cost and other statistical analyses as needed for market adjustments, shift and premium pay evaluations and audits, and other pay practices. Prepares a variety of ad hoc reports and analyses at the direction of management. Experience developing and implementing new compensation programs or changes to existing programs. Provides in depth salary data analysis with technical expertise to ensure the quality and accuracy of the data, then process design and present in a way to help the campus, make better decisions. Conducts market salary and benefits trends analysis. Uses models and metrics to analyze current job market trends and predict future trends

The unit provides recommendations to the Associate Vice Chancellor - Staff Human Resources (AVC-SHR) on all matters pertaining to campus staff compensation and classification including recommending strategies that enhance the management of campus staff workforce and for the local administration of the system-wide benefits programs and represents the AVC-SHR on these matters in system-wide groups. The unit works collaboratively with colleagues in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Business and Administrative Services, Planning and Budget, all campus organizational units and other campus groups on design, implementation and policy interpretation matters as they relate to compensation and benefits. Designs and recommends campus compensation programs

Work location is UC Santa Cruz Scotts Valley Center at 100 Enterprise Way, Scotts Valley, CA

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

  • Advanced knowledge of the compensation function and applicable practices and programs as well as knowledge of organization goals, objectives and initiatives

  • Advanced knowledge to develop and implement compensation programs for the organization and understands how they and other initiatives may impact various areas of human resources

  • Advanced analytical skills to conduct diverse analysis; develop and present findings and recommendations; and highly effective written and verbal communication skills in order to present complex information in a clear and concise manner

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse client groups, other areas of human resources, and members of the organization's management
