We manage HR for clients with employees in 38 states and growing –all from our world headquarters in Greenville, South Carolina. We work with small to medium sized businesses from a wide range of industries, including: finance, hospitality, retail, health, construction, manufacturing, IT, pharmaceutical, not-for-profit, professional services and many more.  

We are currently looking for an exceptional Payroll Manager to join our team. OVERVIEW 

The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing all payroll & time system needs of the company. Through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by the objectives of the company, the Payroll Manager provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the company has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management to our organization that mirrors the adopted mission and core values of the company
  • Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of time & attendance and payroll
  • Collaborate with all members of the team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of our organization
  • Perform monthly audits of payroll, benefits, tax and time system needs
  • Manage vendor relationships
  • Manage the implementation for all clients in coordination with the Senior HR Director- ensure there is a unified, well-communicated, proative approach for clients to ensure a seamless transition
  • Represent the company with clients, investors and business partners

PAYROLL/HRIS

  • Manage the systems implementation process with new clients and changes with current clients
  • Analyze client needs for data recording and accounting and work with payroll vendor to achieve proper setup and reporting
  • Work with 401k/Retirement Plan companies and payroll vendor to set up imports or other forms of data transfer
  • Train clients on the payroll process
  • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated payroll issues
  • Ensure payroll reporting and payments are compliant with company policy as well as federal, state and IRS regulations
  • Work with clients and payroll vendor to ensure proper documentation for 1099 payments, third party sick pay and other fringe benefits
  • Assist clients with year-end 401k compliance testing
  • Train Innovate HR employees on utilizing the system and running payrolls
  • Process payroll for select clients

TIME & ATTENDANCE

  • Manage client set-up in the time & attendance system during implementation
  • Analyze client needs for time recording, rules, other earnings and accrual set up and make recommendations
  • Set up time import file and rules based on client's needs and work with payroll vendore to ensure proper functionality
  • Manage client training on time & attendance system - create instruction guides to assist clients in making changes, running reports, etc.
  • Train Innovate HR employees on Time & Attendance system
  • Provide instructional training to clients on using the system and creating reports 

AUDITING

  • Conduct a monthly audit of employee tax set up and prepare a report based on findings, work with payroll vendor to ensure corrections are made
  • Audit client set up in online benefits portal to ensure proper benefits and rates are set up and updated at renewal/open enrollment

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field required; PHR and/or CPP certification preferred
  • Requires minimum 6-8 years in Payroll, Employee Benefits and Human Resources Administration
  • Working knowledge of compliance with Federal and State labor law and IRS Tax Code applicable to Payroll and Employee Benefits 
  • Experience with systems implementation, project management, and process improvement.  
  • Strong understanding of HR processes and data as well as analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills are a must.
  • Have advanced skills in MS Office package including Excel and the ability to learn other software applications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Must have a valid Driver’s license in good standing
  • Must have a car to drive to client sites 

OTHER

  • Business related travel 15%
