Dodson Bros. Exterminating Company, Inc., one of the largest family-owned pest control companies in the United States, is seeking applicants for the position of Payroll & Human Resources Administrator to join our corporate office in Lynchburg, VA. Our growing team of over 600 employees continues the tradition of excellence established in 1944 and proudly serves customers in seven states and the District of Columbia.


Experience with multi-state payroll and benefits administration preferred. A strong work ethic and commitment to customer service are required.  


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees all payroll and HR functions, including management of HRIS.
  • Acts as a liaison with other departments and outside agencies.
  • Audits payroll information; identify and resolve discrepancies; initiate journal entries as needed.
  • Processes and reconciles semi-monthly payrolls prior to and following transmission.
  • Completes operational requirements by overseeing team members and auditing work performance.
  • Oversees the processing of payroll and prepares pay by verifying time records; calculating and producing checks or electronic transfers; calculating and producing monthly incentive bonuses and scheduling and producing bonus payrolls.
  • Maintains payroll information by directing the collection, calculation, and entering of data for new hires and employment data changes.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Verifies and posts complex payroll, commission, and time & attendance data
  • Oversees benefits programs and management of FMLA, ADA, EEO, and FLSA
  • Researches, analyzes, and resolves payroll-related problems or questions.
  • Processes manual checks, including the calculation of final paychecks, as required.
  • Review and process accurate year-end reporting such as W-2s, 1095-C, 1094-B, and other required tax filings; and ensure quarterly and annual tax filings are completed by vendor in a timely manner.


Qualifications for this position include:


  • High school diploma required, relevant college degree preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years payroll and HR management experience
  • Professional certification in payroll and/or Human Resources preferred (CPP, PHR, SHRM-CP)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision
