Position Summary:

This position is primarily concerned with the processing of the company’s entire payroll function. This involves insuring that individual associate time is reported and processed accurately for the preparation of payroll checks. The Payroll Accountant is also responsible for the timely reporting of all federal, state and SC PEBA (Public Employees Benefit Authority) retirement reports pertaining to payroll.

 

Essential Functions:
  • UtilizetheKRONOSHR/Payrollsystemtoprocesstheweeklypayrollfunction.

  • UpdateassociatepositioninformationandschedulesintheKRONOSWTKsystem

  • Reconcileandanalyzepayrollliabilityaccountstothegeneralledgermonthly.

  • Preparejournalentriestocompletemonthlyaccountingcycle,annualauditandanyadjustingentriesnecessarytoreconcilesubsidiaryrecordstothegeneralledger.

  • Maintaininformationusingspreadsheets,databaseprogramsorwebbasedprogramstoaidinpreparingmonthlyanalysesforassignedaccounts.

  • Preparemonthly,quarterlyandyearlyreportspertainingtoFederal/Statetaxesandreporting,includingquarterly941sandyearlyW2s.PrepareanynecessarycorrectedW-2forms.SubmitrequiredW-2informationtotheIRSandtotheSCDepartmentofRevenue intherequiredformat.

  • Preparemonthly,quarterlyandyearlyreportspertainingtoSCPEBAretirement,includingpaymentsandassociateadjustmentsandinformationreporting.

  • PrepareandsubmitquarterlyreportspertainingtoUnemploymentinformation.

  • Ensurefederalandstatepayrolltaxcompliancewithtimelydepositofpayrolltaxes.

  • TracktaxablebenefitssuchasAutoAllowance,RecognitionandSpotAwards,TravelAdvanceandReimbursements,MileageReimbursements,VehicleUse,etc.,paidtoemployeesonaweeklyand/ormonthlybasis.ReconciletoW-2s.

  • MaintainandupdateaKRONOSmanualwithdetailedinstructionsforcompletingtheweeklyPayrollprocess.

  • PreparemonthlyandquarterlyreportsandpaymentspertainingtopayrollusedinsubmittingassociateandemployerretirementandgrouplifecontributionsalongwithFederalandStatetaxes.

  • Maintaininformationusingspreadsheet,databaseand/orwebbasedprogramstouseinpreparingsalaryinformationsubmittedtoSCPEBAusedtocalculateanddetermineassociatesmonthlyretirementbenefits.

  • Actsasacustomerserviceconsultantresearching,resolvingandrespondingtoAssociate,Manager,DepartmentDirectorandOfficersquestionsregardingpayrollbenefitsandconcernsregardingpaymentsforregularworkandbenefits.RefersescalatedissuestoAccountingmanagementwhenappropriate.

  • Makesrecommendationsforprocessimprovementstocontinuouslyimproveefficiencyandcustomerservice.

  • Developsandupdatespayrollproceduresandstandardoperatinginstructions(SOIs)

  • Receiveandcalculate wagegarnishmentandfamilycourtdeductionstobeimplementedbyHR

  • Provideemploymentandsalaryinformationasneededusingutmostdiscretion.Maintainintegrityofthepayrollsystembyexercisingconfidentialityatalltimes.

  • Accountableforthetimelycompletionofassignedyear-endauditschedules,annualfunctionalareaincentivesandanyassignedfinancial/accountingreports.

  • Mayberequiredtoworkduringemergencyconditions.

  • Regularattendanceisrequired.

  • JobperformancemustconformtoallCWSpoliciesandprocedures.

  • SpecificknowledgeofCWSEnvironmentalManagementSystemPolicyandProcedures.

     

Additional Duties:
  • Education and/or Experience
    • B.S.degreeinAccountingorBusinessAdministrationwithaconcentrationinAccountingandtwoyearsofexperienceoracombinationofeducationandexperienceinAccountingtoequalseven(7)years.

    • Experiencemustbeprogressivelyresponsibleanddiverseaccountingexperienceinwhichabroadexposuretoallareasofaccountingandaccountingprinciples,practicesandprocedureswasacquiredtoincludeatleasttwoyearsofpayrollexperienceinalargepayrolldepartmentwithajobcostaccountingsystem.

    • Moderateknowledgeofgenerallyacceptedaccountingprinciplesandconcepts.

    • CertifiedPayrollProfessionalcertificationdesirable.

    • Creativeability,writingproficiency,visualgraphicsanddesignability.

    • Goodanalytical,negotiationandpeopleskills.

    • KnowledgeofFederalandStateLawsandregulationspertainingtotaxcomplianceandreporting

    • KnowledgeofSCPEBArulesandregulationspertainingtoretirementsystemcomplianceandreporting

    • Extensiveknowledgeofpayrollprinciples,practices,regulationsandprocedures.

    • Advancedknowledgeofwordprocessingandspreadsheetsoftwareprograms.

    • Priorworkrecordindicatingdependabilityandconscientiousness.

       

    Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
    • Therearenospecialdesignationsrequiredforthisposition.
