North Water District Laboratory Services, Inc. is an environmental laboratory based in The Woodlands/Conroe area.  A growing company with approximately 60 employees, NWDLS is looking to hire an experienced in-house HR Advisor.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The HR Advisor performs human resources-related duties at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: employee relations, training, employment, employee relations, affirmative action and employment equity programs.

Essential Functions

  1. Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and other government regulations.
  2. Conducts exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement.
  3. Responds to employee relations issues such as employee complaints, grievances, harassment allegations and civil rights complaints.
  4. Represents the company for any unemployment claims.
  5. Facilitates or provides training (including orientation) to the workforce.
  6. Compensation design which may include performing job analysis, and position evaluations, and writing job descriptions
  7. Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.
  8. Interviews, screens and recruits job applicants to fill entry-level, professional and technical job openings.
  9. Responsible for job posting, reviewing resumes and applications, conducts interviews with applicants to match experience with specific job-related requirements.
  10. Conducts new-hire orientation and ensures on-boarding of new employees is successful and all new hire paperwork is collected
  11. Develops and ensures compliance with all safety policies and procedures.  Also conducts safety inspections and maintains accident reports.
  12. Monitor PTO and job schedules for employees and managers to ensure adherence.
  13. Responsible for all personnel action forms and coordinating the proper approval(s)
  14. HR Development which includes on-the-job training programs, as well as maintaining employee records for participation in all training programs
  15. Risk Management - developing and administering health and safety programs, including conducting safety inspections, maintaining accident records, and preparing government reports for compliance purposes.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach, advisor and mentor for other positions within the company.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to talk and hear.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position, expected to work 25 hours/week. Standard days and hours of work for full time employees are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. While there is flexibility in the hours worked for this part-time employee, they must be consistently available during the agreed upon hours. That can be arranged as three full days/week or 4-5 shortened days per week, to be determined during the interview process.

Travel

Minimal travel is anticipated in this position.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in human resource management or a related field or equivalent education, training and experience.
  2. Two to four years of experience in human resource generalist or advisory role. 
  3. Background in employment law and other government compliance regulations is a plus.
  4. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification or ability to obtain certification within 12 months is preferred.
