Essential Responsibilities and Functions
  • Administer all human resource activities including recruiting, selection and retention, hiring and termination, orientation, compensation, training and development, counseling, employee relations, conflict resolution, performance evaluations, and employment policies and procedures in accordance with company and legal guidelines.
  • Participate as a member of the management team, which involves regular communications, meetings, and shared assignments and projects.
  • Train Supervisors on best practices of employee management, supervision, mentoring, and internal policies, including process and timeliness of disciplinary action when needed.
  • Identify staffing needs and implement systems to maintain that the Center’s fully staffed and trained. Facilitate the use of any temporary employment agencies.
  • Provide a comprehensive report of open and filled positions and the metrics around the recruitment efforts (posting costs, time to fill, etc.).
  • Train HR Coordinator on postings for job opportunities, including how to write effective postings, where to post, and organizational skills around tracking postings.
  • Review and update all job descriptions
  • Reconcile with CELS (new staffing and credential requirements)
  • Ensure compliance with FLSA (new staffing and credential requirements).
  • Create a compensation and benefits structure that will be competitive in the field, and reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors so that Mary Crane can make more efficient and consistent decisions when hiring, promoting, and giving raises/incentives.
  • Provide prompt and accurate guidance to employees regarding all benefit programs.
  • Responsible for policy interpretation and ensuring implementation of policies as related to grievances and/or performance management.
  • Advise Site Directors and Managers of prompt and accurate completion of all status changes including background checks, health records, and professional references and ensure proper documentation.
  • Obtain all proper documentation for terminations. Coordinate an exit interview and provide the exit procedures. Identify trends in attrition and provide solutions.
  • Implement HR policies and procedures to provide reliable and efficient service, as well as a pleasant and productive work environment.
  • Provide training for the staff and board executive committee on effective, timely and supportive supervision, communication, and job performance reviews.
  • Coach staff on Professional Development planning so that Mary Crane can continue to promote from within.
  • Create a plan and process for long-term HR effectiveness.
  • Oversee employee safety and health matters, specifically regarding ergonomic needs and the administration of workers compensation claims.
  • Keep apprised of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations in order to ensure compliance.
  • Instill diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in all human resource policies and practices.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate employee statistics on educational levels, positions, salaries, and medical benefits.


The successful candidate will possess the following essential qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentational skills.
  • Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with administration, staff, consultants, regulators and founders in a team-oriented environment.
  • Capacity to assume responsibility for own professional development.
  • Detail oriented, logical, and methodological approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to plan and schedule the work of others.
  • Experience working and negotiating with unions.
  • Flexible, with the ability to work in a highly demanding, stressful environment.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to cooperate successfully as a member of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, including giving and receiving feedback on the quality of services.
  • Meet any specific content area requirements.
  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field from an accredited college or university is required.
  • SHRM and/or HRCI certification desirable
