About Us:

Wash Cycle Laundry strives to be the fastest, most convenient and sustainable way for businesses to do laundry. We are a triple-bottom line social enterprise committed to creating a launching pad into upwardly mobile careers, especially for people with histories of incarceration and homelessness, who make up over half of our diverse and enthusiastic team. We service both independent operators and global brands, including several Fortune 500 companies.  We operate in Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Massachusetts, and in 2018 we established our biggest plant ever in Chelsea, MA.

You:

The HR Manager will manage our HR functions across all operations. You will support our leadership team in improving our human resource strategy and creating processes and trainings that grow with our company and align with our social mission. The ideal candidate is a natural problem solver who enjoys setting up HR processes and procedures from scratch, who can jump from strategy to tactical implementation without a hitch, and lead operational and cultural initiatives.

As a company, we are heavily committed to second chances and internal promotion.  You will help us develop the systems, policies, training, and culture that allow us to welcome people back to the workforce, overcome significant barriers, and also meet high expectations for performance from demanding clients.  Furthermore, you will help us develop the internal training programs to ensure that front line workers can successfully take on the first supervisory and managerial positions in their careers.

Our workforce reflects the communities where we operate.  You are a confident speaker of Spanish and English in a professional setting, and can build trust with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, including those who have exited long periods of incarceration and those who have recently arrived to the United States.

You are passionate about people and process, with an eye and drive for continuous improvement. Making a difference to those around you is what gets you out of bed in the morning and you are not afraid to go out of your comfort zone to do so. This job is not only about how well you handle nurturing our team and culture; it’s about how you lend your positivity and presence to coach, mentor, develop and/or support our diverse workforce.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the design and implement our HR programs, processes, and policies so they can effectively scale with the company.

  • Manage matters regarding HR, benefits administration, organizational development and any HR-related legal concerns.

  • Manage day-to-day HR operations of the business, including payroll, benefits, time-off, contracts, and compliance.

  • Act as first point of contact and support for employee changes including professional development, employee performance, leave, and day-to-day support.

  • Develop and deploy initiatives to drive employee engagement and a strong sense of connection across our highly distributed company including but not limited to diversity, inclusion and equity.

  • Support recruiting efforts with insights on future hiring and strategic initiatives as needed.

  • Welcome and onboard new team members so they are integrated successfully into the team and can hit the ground running.

  • Coordinate with the Leadership Team and outside counsel on risk and legal related matters.

  • Train our production supervisors, many of whom are in the first supervisory roles of their careers, to access, understand, and act accordingly in handling plant level HR matters such as policy violations, employee coaching, and performance reviews.

  • Respond to routine requests for information, such as reporting to leadership, investors, and other partners on data and social impact measures related to HR.

  • Report to our CEO.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Conversational Spanish required. Advanced or fluent Spanish a plus, but not required.

  • More than two years of human resources, people operations, or closely related experience

  • Experience setting up internal people policies, systems, and procedures in a growing company

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a deep ability to understand what motivates others

  • Excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize actions

  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment, and to juggle several projects with a spirit of flexibility and positive outlook

  • Ability to write and communicate verbally in an effective and compelling manner

  • Experience in startups, nonprofits, or high growth companies a plus

  • BA or master's degree preferred
