Located in the beautiful San Juan River Valley in northwest New Mexico, San Juan Regional Medical Center is a 194 bed, level III trauma center including state-of-the-art operating suites and 72 private patient rooms with fresh air balconies. As a non-profit, community owned hospital, San Juan Regional Medical Center serves the Four Corners area of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah. The SJRMC network includes an 18 bed rehabilitation hospital, San Juan Health Partners specialty clinics, heart center, outpatient rehabilitation care , outpatient diagnostic services, wound treatment center,  AirCare emergency service, a free standing cancer center, San Juan Regional Spine Center, and San Juan Regional Heart Center. We have expanded our clinics to provide services in Aztec, Cortez, and Bayfield.

 

Position Summary:

The Staff Education Manager position is integral to realizing the SJRMC mission, vision, and values related to organizational excellence and learning for leadership, management, and other clinical and non-clinical positions. The position provides learning and development services by providing life-long learning opportunities to the entire staff. The Staff Education Manager serves as manager of the Staff Education department, responsible for implementation and management of orientations, organizational learning related to leadership, management and staff training, coaching and mentoring teams and individuals, E-Learning and other blended learning delivery, and compiling assessment and evaluation for the various programs. Focus for the position is provided through on-going needs assessment of staff, collaboration with SJRMC leadership in identifying departmental needs and supporting strategic initiatives and improvement goals.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Contributes to the care of the environment by maintaining work areas assisting with housekeeping tasks as needed. Maintains customer’s rights (confidentiality, privacy, safety, security, and decision making); Interacts with customers who may include physicians, co-workers, vendors, and visitors in a manner to exemplify the organization’s mission and core values

Builds trust and credibility with employees and managers through effective collaboration resulting in appropriate educational services and effective management of resources. Manages 3 full time and 30 PRN employees

 


Thoughtful Anticipation

 

Expertise provides a basis to provide thoughtful and appropriate personal and professional career development support, coaching and career paths to assist SJRMC staff in fulfilling their potential. Meets the needs of supervisors and managers with optimal instructional design, guidance, and implementation to ensure transfer of learning into work behaviors based upon industry standards. Supports SJRMC strategic initiatives by developing curriculum and delivering training for staff. Conducts annual education needs assessment of staff to keep programs current and relevant to SJRMC and healthcare issues and concerns. Is knowledgeable of and participates in organizational performance improvement programs; Proactive in research of best practice programs.

 

Team Accountability

 

Serves as the administrator of the Continuing Nursing Education provider contract.

Serves as the administrator for the Continuing Medical education program in partnership with Christus St. Vincent’s Health System in Santa Fe.

Serves as the administrator of the American Health Association training Center including quality assurance for all classes including affiliated training sites.

Oversee the following programs: BLS Heartcode, BLS RQI ACLS, PALS, NRP.

Provides Management, supervisor and leadership curriculum and training as appropriate in collaboration with departments and leadership to meet organizational needs.

Coordinates with leaders and managers for strategic career planning using methodologies that may include:

 

Mentoring/Coaching learning sessions; Coordination of education and training with external providers; Formal requirements as needed for departments and programs such as EI, Teambuilding, Personality Styles, Conflict Resolution; Design of orientation and follow up orientation sessions; Administers the Education Benefit and the Tuition Reimbursement programs.

Collaborates with customers including Administration, Directors, Managers and Staff to develop, implement, and evaluate career paths for staff development aligned to strategic goals.

 

Provides leadership in educational services that direct personal and professional development activities that are aligned to the MVP and core values of SJRMC.

 

Supports the Emergency Nurses Association programming; Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum and emergency Nurse Pediatric Curriculum.

 

Arrange for specialty programming via Teleconference

 

Develops and monitors budget within organizational guidelines; investigates financial needs and reports to the Director of Workforce Excellence. Manages budget and resources, personnel responsibilities, and prepares summary reports.

 

Manages the scheduling and equipment maintenance of the education department including five classrooms.

 


Creative Vitality

 

Using adult learning principles, demonstrates creativity in design of professional development to maximize employee engagement.

 

Coordinates the Frontline Leadership Program in collaboration with a Steering Committee of SJRMC managers and directors.

 

Provides services focused on maximizing SJRMC’s ability to improve organizational performance and relationship based patient-centered care delivery.

 

Each employee is responsible for implementing SJRMC’s Service Standards into their daily work.

Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:

 

Occasional irregular work hours to meet the needs of staff.

 

Workshop support/general duties sometimes require lifting, bending, stooping; requires driving to classrooms, picking up supplies/ equipment, moving tables and chairs

Required Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Education or related field with emphasis in either Healthcare Education, Career Development, or Human Resources

Corporate training experience

Five years’ experience in a healthcare organization

Two years’ experience in management

Expertise in Adult Learning Theory

Proficient in use of Microsoft Applications

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written


Preferred Qualifications:

Related certification

Customized Training Experience

Experience with American Heart Association training

Content expertise in education design and application in: Gap analysis, Design of effective instructional programs;

Implementation of education intervention/evaluation techniques; Expertise in designing performance-based programs ensuring acquisition of knowledge and transfer of learning to the work environment;

Expertise in facilitation of education teams

Experience with e Learning Systems

Experience with Survey Software

Experience with Research Methods
