The Manager, Compensation Services is an integral part in the development and modification of compensation programs and policies and will manage the development/design, implementation, and coordination of the University’s compensation program related to base compensation and short and long-term pay plans. Provide guidance, insight, and research on market trends, compliance and best practices for staff and faculty to ensure the University attracts, retains, and motivates top talent. Present analysis to leadership, make recommendations relevant to salary structure, merit pool, and variable pay to ensure market competitiveness and internal equity.

Duties:

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a compensation system based upon market analysis which supports the University’s compensation philosophy through research and identification of strategic opportunities that position UHCL’s compensation program and practices as a competitive advantage.

  • Conduct classification review and market analyses, draft job descriptions, and prepare recommendations. Counsel department administrators on compensation procedures and best practices; recommend appropriate actions.

  • Review and analyze salary requests for new hires, promotions, reclassifications, transfers and other personnel actions in accordance with university policy and compensation guidelines.

  • Conduct complex compensation projects such as job studies, pay structure proposals, and review of annual staff increases in accordance with budget guidelines; prepares associated reports and recommendations.

  • Research federal and state laws, rules, and regulations regarding compensation and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); draft compensation procedures and recommendations for revisions to university compensation policies.

  • Oversee position management and maintenance of compensation related set-up tables and pages in PeopleSoft HRMS. Supervise the design and development of human resources standard and ad-hoc reports. Participate in the administration of the university’s staff performance appraisal system. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required:

1. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field.


2. Related progressive compensation experience in a leadership role.

3. Demonstrated ability to research and analyze data, interpret and document results, and make recommendations on job classifications, salary adjustments, equity increases and pay plans.

4. Professional and effective oral and written communication skills.

5. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to effectively interact at all levels.

6. Must be enthusiastic self-starter with energy and drive, and contribute as a positive working member in a team environment.

7. Experienced in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines with flexibility to respond to changing needs.

8. Must understand the importance of confidentiality and exercise professional judgment in working with confidential information.

9. Must be familiar with federal and state laws, rules, and regulations regarding compensation and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Desired:

Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field.

Related compensation experience in a State of Texas university setting or other higher education setting.
