The Labor Relations Specialist conducts the labor relations efforts of the Town. The Specialist performs a range of labor relation functions related to the administration of the Town's collective bargaining agreements and serves as a resource in the negotiations of the collective bargaining agreements under the jurisdiction of the Board of Education.  The Specialist administers the grievance process consistent with the individual collective bargaining agreements.

 

Reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Labor Relations, Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a related field.
 
8 years of progressively responsible labor relations experience with specific practice in collective bargaining and grievance resolution.  Experience in a municipal setting preferred.
 
Labor relations experience must include work as a lead labor negotiator in a multi-union environment, including direct responsibility for contract negotiations.
 
Qualifications:
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of labor relations management in the public sector;  demonstrated knowledge of grievance and arbitration processes.
 
Thorough knowledge of applicable Federal and State labor laws.
 
Demonstrated capability in planning of and strategy formulation for labor negotiations and in the consultative, team-oriented formulation of collective bargaining proposals and responses.
 
Proven effective communication skills both written and oral.
 
Demonstrated aptitude in utilizing data to project costs, calculate savings, identify trends and frame arguments in collective bargaining.
 
Demonstrated practice with alternative dispute resolution and in handling complex grievances and sensitive issues.
 
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a personal computer and related software applications.
 
Proven ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, department heads, administrators, employees, outside attorneys, professionals, consultants, government officials and the general public.
 
Demonstrated ability working with highly confidential information.
