The KBI is accepting applications to fill a Human Resources Professional. As a Human Resources Professional, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Entering employee related transactions into the Kansas Statewide Resource and Payroll System (SHaRP) including processing new hires, transfers in and out, pay changes, terminations, retirement, etc.
  • You will frequently extract data from SHaRP and other data files and use Excel or Access to develop reports for management as needed.
  • You will be responsible to revise, improve, and present all phases of the new employee orientation.
  • You will be expected to develop expert knowledge of the benefits available to State employees and counsel new-hires as well as current employees on benefit issues.
  • Recruitment responsibilities will include participating in job fairs, assisting supervisors with developing advertisements for vacancies, developing multiple job posting avenues, and participating in interviews. You will also assist with reference checks and the background process.
  • If successful, you will be expected to become knowledgeable of KBI policies and state benefits to answer employee employee’s questions and conduct new hire orientation.
  • This position will be the primary back-up for processing bi-weekly payroll and secondary back-up the KBI reception position during lunch breaks and absences.


The incumbent will be the primary back-up to the Human Resources Director, acting in that capacity in his or her absence.



You are required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related responsibilities as requested by your supervisor.



  • Two year of experience in planning, directing, organizing, managing or administering personnel or human resource functions
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources management
  • One year of experience in payroll function, preferably in SHaRP or Peoplesoft
  • Experience as a KPERS Designated Agent or Additional Signer
  • Knowledge of State of Kansas Employee Benefits
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills





  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, human resources, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of state laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the Kansas Civil Service system.



Limited In-state travel required. You are required to have a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.



As a condition of employment, candidate(s) are subject to a pre-employment process to include a polygraph examination, fingerprint based records check, and comprehensive background investigation, including reference check of past and present employers. The pre-employment process will be waived for current KBI personnel who have previously completed the screening requirements

A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days. All applicants, including current state employees, are responsible for submitting a valid certificate with all other application materials to the hiring agency.  This is in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03.
