Alamo Structural Steel, LLC, a newly formed subsidiary of FabSouth, LLC, seeks a hands-on HR generalist to oversee all aspects of HR for its steel fabrication facilities in Waco, TX and Victoria, TX (this position will be based at the Waco location).  FabSouth is part of Canam Group,  North America's largest steel fabricator.

JOB SUMMARY: Plans and carries out policies and programs relating to all phases of human resources, payroll, safety and directly and ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:       

  • Maintains staffing levels consistent with plant objectives. Recruits, interviews, and selects employees to fill vacant positions. Plans and coordinates new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
  • Works with plant management in assessing departmental needs and organizational planning and development, evaluating structure, job design and manpower forecasting throughout the company.
  • Plans, organizes and controls all activities of the department. Participates in developing departmental goals, objectives and systems.
  • Rewrites position descriptions as necessary; monitors performance evaluation/review processes and revises as necessary
  • Develops, recommends and implements personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains handbook and orientation programs, performs benefits administration to include claims resolution through the benefits carrier or benefits broker.
  • Develops and maintains affirmative actions plans and programs; files EEO-1 and Vets-1 annually, maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations
  • Trains managers and supervisors in conducting interviews and selection in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Oversees employee payroll, benefit administration, safety, health, and employee relation’s functions (event planning).
  • Conducts wage and salary surveys within local labor markets to determine competitive rates and develops and implements salary administration plan.
  • Assists with preparation of the budget for human resources operations and requests and approves purchases.
  • Compiles and analyzes a variety of data (turnover, absenteeism, etc) and develops programs / practices to address areas of concern.
  • Represents the company at personnel related hearings and investigations, including unemployment claims, workers’ compensation, EEO, etc.
  • May contract with outside suppliers to provide employee services such as temporary Labor.
  • In conjunction with departmental managers, develops and coordinates company’s general training needs. Conducts training on company policy issues, employee development and other issues as they arise.
  • Develops Employee Relations by counseling employees and other managers on various employee relation issues.
  • Oversees site security (Research, implementation, audits).
  • Ensures compliance in recordkeeping and reporting related to all areas of responsibility are consistent with all applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations (i.e. I-9s, workers’ compensation, safety, etc.…)
  • Develops and maintains the DOT Driver certification program for their respective site.
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with customers, co-workers, clients and supervisors
  • Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor

 

 

 

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field plus a minimum of 5 years of progressive human resource experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to operate various types of HR software
  • Good communications skills; verbal and written
  • Ability to interact well with people on all levels
  • PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regularly required to sit, occasionally stands and walks, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to talk or hear. Seldom lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

General office and constant exposure to computer display. Occasional interaction with production employees in the fabrication facility. Occasional travel for training, job fairs, etc.
