The HR Manager is a hands on position providing advice and counsel to managers, supervisors, and employees as to Human Resources policies and procedures and employee benefits. Directly responsible for recruiting, selection and on-boarding. The position also focuses on teamwork with a heavy emphasis toward fostering positive labor relations. This position assists with change management and taking a leadership role in employee development and counseling

Responsibilities include:

  • Understand and ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations, including reporting requirements
  • Serve as an internal expert to guide management on matters concerned with employee relations and employment law and accountable for motivating and stimulating supervisors and managers to ensure consistent, and fair treatment of their employees
  • Works with all levels of management to provide human resources expertise in all aspects of the human resources function including but not limited to employee relations, benefits, full-cycle recruiting and workers compensation
  • Create a value-added approach to Talent Acquisition through job evaluation, position analysis, interviewing and on-boarding for all facilities
  • Facilitate the Labor Relations process at the Salem plant by performing duties including 1st and 2nd step union grievances and related responses, taking minutes, and overseeing job postings
  • Interface with all levels of management and union leadership in interpreting union contracts; may participate in union contract negotiations
  • Manages the leave of absence programs
  • Responsible for complete and timely HR metrics such as headcount, turnover, time and cost to fill position, etc
  • Optimize effectiveness of HRIS processes including Applicant Tracking, On-boarding, Learning Management, and Performance Management/Goals Systems etc.
  • Manages the Workers Compensation process for the Salem facility

A qualified candidate will have the following skills and experience

  • Solid written and verbal communication, listening, organization and priority setting skills
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
  • Must be skilled in use of MS Office and HR systems
  • Solid critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Coach managers, technical professionals, and hourly employees
  • 5 years of experience in Human Resources in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of labor relations with experience responding to or answering union grievances
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems.
