Under the limited direction of the Director of Employee Relations, the HR Manager performs and/or oversees a variety of associated complex administrative, staff support and planning activities in support of the Provost and Human Resources offices. The HR Manager provides a high level of HR support to the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs on all aspects of human resources including, but not limited to, faculty recruitment, compensation, performance management, and benefits.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employee and Labor Relations:

  • In support of the Office of the Provost and the Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs, participates in all aspects of human resources. Provides guidance and expertise on matters related to employee and labor relations, performance management, and university agreements, policies and procedures as outlined in the faculty handbook and AAUP Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
  • Participates in activities related to the administration of the CBA. Interprets and provides advice and guidance regarding the terms of the agreement to ensure compliance.
  • Establishes and maintains a partnership with key HR representatives of each college; supports HR data and reporting needs; provides guidance on recruitment activities and appointment letters.
  • In support of the Vice Provost Faculty Affairs and Director of Employee Relations, reviews grievances and concerns by gathering information, facilitating discussions and providing recommendations of corrective actions.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of employee relations initiatives, educational programs and special projects specific to faculty related issues.
  • Conducts research and provides assistance in support of labor negotiations; may serve on negotiation teams.
  • Monitors current trends and assists with improving/introducing employee relations policies and best practices as appropriate.
  • Fulfills HR liaison responsibilities to include completing relevant HR forms (ie JEDs, position change, recruitment, FMLA) and other documents as necessary in support of the Provost Office.


Faculty Activity System Oversight:

  • Manages, maintains and monitors the UDAcademe system as well as provides training to end users. The system is designed to support record keeping on faculty accomplishments and activities as well as to facilitate all faculty evaluations including annual appraisal, contract renewal, and the promotion and tenure process.
  • Ensures that all faculty evaluation processes are implemented within UDAcademe consistent with University policies.
  • Coordinates the archiving of evaluation outcome
  • Monitors and coordinates with IT for the transfer of institutional data into UDAcademe.
  • Facilitates and coordinates optimal use of UDAcademe for archiving and utilization of faculty data for institutional purposes.


Diversity:

  • Collaborate with the Office of Equity and Inclusion and the Vice Provost for Diversity to support diversity initiatives.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field with five years job-related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in HR procedures, advanced analytical and critical thinking skills are required. Experience in a higher education environment preferred.
  • Professional Certification in Human Resources preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the principles, practices and procedures of employee and labor relations; grievance/conflict resolution; and mediation/ alternative dispute resolution.
  • Knowledge of the applicable employment laws and regulations, including those pertaining to collective bargaining and employer-employee relations.
  • Experience negotiating & administering collective bargaining agreements preferred.
  • Knowledge of a variety of human resources areas such as FMLA, ADA, and FLSA, and experience in advising managers and staff.
  • Ability to communicate and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Power Point, Excel, Word, (Access preferred).
