Hattie B's Hot Chicken is a family owned restaurant company from Nashville, TN.  We are growing and excited to bring Nashville’s signature dish to other great cities around the country. 

This position works closely with the Corporate Team (Owner, CFO, Director of Hospitality, Hiring Managers) in directing the activities of the Human Resources department, which includes Benefits (Health Insurance, 401k) Employee Relations, I-9 Audits, EEOC responses, employee background verifications, and labor law compliance company-wide, in such a way as to maximize services to internal and external clients and protect the Company’s assets.  This position will manage the day-to-day HR needs of the company while also contributing to the strategic direction of HR, benefits and policies.  This is a great opportunity for career growth and to ultimately become a leader of future HR team.

1. Maintains the utmost confidentiality in dealing with employee records and business information.
2. Works closely with the executive team in planning, organizing, and directing the activities and staff of the Human Resources Department, including recruitment and selection, classification and compensation, employee benefits, health and safety, organizational development and training, risk management and compliance with all state and federal labor laws.
3. Manages the continued development and implementation of all Human Resources department goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities for each job function. This will include assigning projects and responsibilities, reviews and evaluates work methods and work product, and meets with staff regularly to address and resolve concerns.
4. Responsible for auditing and ensuring operational compliance of all I-9 and other legally required forms/documents for all company personnel system wide.
5. Must apply professional knowledge and personal judgment to a variety of technical personnel, restaurant personnel, managerial problems and issues.
6. Works closely with the executive team on multiple issues, including but not limited to: interdepartmental policies and procedures, approval of bonus structures for various departments, and establishment of company policies and procedures.
7. Point person on investigation and resolution of all employee complaints and other HR legal issues. .
8. Responsible for conducting periodic wage surveys within labor markets to determine competitive wage rates. Analyzes wage and salary reports and data to determine competitive compensation plan.
9. Responsible for putting Human Resource policies and procedures in place that minimize the company’s exposure to litigation based on all facets of the employment relationship.
10. Using excellent customer service skills, is responsible for managing all employee relations issues.
11. Responsible for management of all personnel records and transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, and terminations to ensure compliance with established procedures.
12. Works with various departments with respect to non-restaurant employee recruitment and hires.
13. Assists CFO in the selection and oversight of all employee benefit program responsibilities by directing the administration of the group health and life insurance plans, 401K, flexible spending plans as well as compliance with COBRA, HIPPA and FMLA. Works with insurance brokers in analyzing existing benefit policies to establish competitive benefits programs. Make recommendations for benefit plan changes to senior management..
14. Attends disciplinary, termination and severance meetings when available.
15. Must be available to participate in all charitable events and work with participating volunteers.

  • Occasional travel by both car and plane, including overnight, weekends and/or holidays. Normal office and occasional restaurant working conditions. Hours in office are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. M – F but actual hours worked will vary in accordance with business necessity.

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Human Resource Management or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years progressively responsible experience, including at least 3 years in the restaurant industry, preferably in a multi-unit environment.
  • Knowledge of all Human Resource and restaurant policies, practices, and operational procedures
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent grammar, verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills to both individuals and groups
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good working knowledge of personal computer including current Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook applications
  • At least 3 references from recent supervisors

Degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent experience

Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Human Resources
