Responsible for managing the human resources practices and procedures of the property. Oversees compliance with federal, state & accrediting agencies. Assists in developing employment policy and manages human resources activities, including recruitment, employment, training, employee relations, employee retention, benefits and other employee services. Delivers excellent service to internal customers by being friendly and efficient. Helps to create a safe, friendly and fair work environment for all employees. Works closely with the Vice President of Human Resources and the property General Manager to prioritize, communicate and pursue the company's employment goals and objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  1. Conveys a favorable image of the organization by projecting a positive, professional appearance and demeanor to our guests and associates alike.
  2. Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  3. Recruits, interviews, selects and trains new and returning employees to fill vacant positions.
  4. Maintains documented standard employment practices and guidelines to include personnel policy, job descriptions, staffing guides and safe work practices.
  5. Keeps records of personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  6. Supports management team with interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance reviews, and safety programs.
  7. Serves as an ambassador of the organization's mission and culture.
  8. Serves the internal customer with the utmost professionalism and reputation.
  9. Plans and conducts portions of new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
  10. Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance appraisals and safety.
  11. Manages employee grievance procedures and serves as investigator.
  12. Conducts internal investigations and prepares reports on findings.
  13. Advises exempt and non-exempt employees in appropriate resolution of employee relations' issues.
  14. Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  15. Protects the interests of the company and its employees in accordance with company policies and government regulations.
  16. Administers salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within the organization.
  17. Assists in benefits programs, such as health, dental, life, disability insurances, vacation, sick time for professional support, leave of absences and employee assistance.
  18. Assists in workers' compensation with work-related accidents.
  19. Assists in wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive and fair compensation.
  20. Reviews employee separation notices and related documentation and assists in unemployment hearings.
  21. Helps to represent the company for personnel-related hearings and investigations.
  22. Participates in Human Resources and industry related groups to learn trends, share information, advocacy and continuing education.
  23. Participates actively on property Safety Committee.
  24. Investigates accidents and prepares reports for Safety Committee and insurance carrier.
  25. Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  26. Supports management team with employee coaching and counseling issues.
  27. Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.
  28. Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  29. Prepares turnover report for the property.
  30. Prepares reports and recommends procedures to reduce absenteeism and turnover.
  31. Represents the company at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
  32. Undertakes other duties as requested by management.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversees one staff member in the Human Resources Department and interns. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education And/Or Experience

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or two to three years' of related experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.

 

Language Skills

Bilingual in English/Spanish required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to upper management. Ability to speak, read and write Spanish at a university level, a plus.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer Skills

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
