Skadden is looking for a full-time Human Resources Manager in our Boston office. This person will perform cross-functional human resources assignments such as Employee Relations, Training and Development, HRIS, FMLA/Benefits Administration, Policy Administration, and Recruitment. Serve as a resource to all Boston office personnel by responding to inquiries regarding Human Resources programs and/or firm policies and procedures.

  • Provides general HR support and guidance to the Boston office.
  • Ensures current knowledge of firm policies and practices for staff, current knowledge of industry trends, and continued professional development for staff.
  • Assists with policy administration, including updating, and interpreting policies for Staff.
  • Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services.
  • Monitors time, attendance, overtime, and expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with Firm policies.
  • Plans and coordinates various office-wide training to provide professional development opportunities, including financial education, health and wellness programs.
  • Prepares and maintains weekly tracker vacancy report outlining the status of current professional staff openings.
  • Effectively utilizes the Firm's performance management process to communicate performance expectations, monitor performance, coach employees, and manage unsatisfactory performance.
  • Oversees employees' work performance and provides guidance in the resolution of problems.
  • Participates in the Professional Staff annual review process.
  • Recommends guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, excellent customer service and improved employee relations, in alignment with the Firm's Core Values.
  • Handles Employee Relations issues, including coaching, counseling and administering disciplinary action and terminations.
  • Participates in internal investigations.
  • Participates in the recruitment and on-boarding process of Professional Staff employees, including collaborating with hiring managers to develop diverse recruitment strategies, utilizing various sources to market and advertise position vacancies; screening resumes, conducting interviews, and referring qualified applicants to the appropriate supervisor and/or manager.
  • Oversees and conducts new employee on-boarding and orientation.
  • Recommends and implements changes and improvements in methods and procedures to higher level management.
  • Develops and communicates departmental guidelines and procedures.
  • Engages in strategic planning by developing departmental goals and supporting objectives for assigned department(s).
  • Maintains employee records and departmental files in accordance with departmental procedures, Human Resources, and state and federal record keeping requirements.
  • Administers Firm policies and procedures.
  • Recommends and implements changes and improvements.
  • Forecasts financial and budget requirements for the department, prepares related reports, and monitors the budget.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Human Resources and Employee Benefits fields and procedures, including recruitment, performance management, policy administration, time and attendance
  • Personally handles more complex issues/duties requiring independent exercise of discretion and judgment
  • Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Knowledge and implementation of the annual budget process
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills
  • Demonstrated experience with leading and supervising others
  • Ability to administer Firm policies and procedures
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and delegate effectively
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team
  • Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment
  • Flexibility to travel
  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of five years of Human Resources and three year managerial experience
