Human Resources Generalist

Reports To:                Director of Human Resources


Summary: Under general direction, provide day-to-day administration of generalist and recruiting activities to support all departments of the academy. This position will work collaboratively with the director to provide vision for the department and acts as a back-up to the director. The incumbent will have growth opportunities in this role. Human Resources will help senior administration drive the community culture, therefore, a strong belief in and adherence to our Mission and Core Values is imperative.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for recruiting functions to include:
  • Perform onboarding and offboarding duties for all regular employees. In collaboration with the department managers, determine personalized orientation process for each new employee. Assist HR coordinator with seasonal hiring and onboarding.
  • Create and update job descriptions. Assist the director with compensation surveys and analysis for benchmarking.
  • Lead the bi-weekly payroll process, including entering non-exempt hours into the payroll system, transmitting an electronic payroll file to the third-party vendor, running payroll reports, preparing journal entries, and sorting and distributing pay checks on specified pay date.
  • In collaboration with the human resources coordinator, helps with benefit enrollment, changes, and terminations. Oversee other benefit programs such as workers compensation, unemployment, and tuition assistance. Participate in contract renewal negotiations for all benefit offerings with the director.
  • Assist the director with compensation and benefits budgeting.
  • Assist the director with employee engagement activities, e.g., events, reward and recognition, retention, and training. Participate in the human resources campus committee.
  • Provide guidance to department managers and staff on policy and interpretation.
  • consultation with hiring managers to develop specific recruiting plans;
  • internal and external job postings;
  • networking through social media on recruiting sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Glassdoor;
  • review and screen applicant materials, conduct phone interviews, and determine qualified candidates to forward to hiring managers;
  • schedule and conduct interviews with managers, make recommendations, and check references
  • Maintain an applicant tracking system.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Intermediate knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of human resources administration as well as considerable knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations pertaining to human resources matters.
  • Ability to perform moderately complex calculations for salary and benefit administration and to forecast departmental expenses.
  • Good judgment, professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, and a collaborative work style.
  • High integrity, confidentiality, and ability to generate trust.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and to identify and resolve problems.
  • Innovative, creative, and constantly looking for ways to improve and optimize efficiency.
  • Great organizational skills and attention to details.


Minimum Qualifications:    

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, communications or a relevant field required.
  • At least 3 years experience in full cycle recruiting or HR generalist experience. SHRM-CP preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and/or HRIS systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education approved by Human Resources.
