AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Hollywood, is one of the foremost post-secondary performing arts colleges in the country. AMDA offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degree programs in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance Theatre and Performing Arts, as well as two year conservatory programs.

The Human Resources Generalist performs human resources-related duties at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: recruitment, on-boarding, benefits administration, leave of absence, workers' compensation, employee relations, progressive discipline, performance management, and employment law compliance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; assists with preparing and maintaining the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual.
  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems, evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Interviews, screens and recruits job applicants to fill entry-level, professional and technical job openings.
  • Facilitates or provides training (including orientation) to the employees.
  • Performs benefits administration, including claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefits information to employees.
  • Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.
  • Processes Leaves and Absence and Workers’ Compensation Claims, maintains files and reporting. 
  • Administers the compensation program; monitors the performance evaluation program and recommends revisions as necessary.
  • Manages and tracks all employee disciplinary action.
  • Coaches, counsels and guides managers before executing employee disciplinary actions.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, conducts exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement.
  • Responds to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations and civil rights complaints.
  • Represents the company for any unemployment claims.
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • PHR and/or SHRM-CP Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of prior of Human Resources experience required, preferably in a Human Resources Generalist role.
  • Must have experience processing Leaves of Absence and Workers' Compensation Claims.
  • Must have experience with Employee Relations, Harassment Investigations, and Progressive Disciplinary procedures.
  • Broad knowledge of federal, state, local employment laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple complex demands simultaneously covering a broad spectrum of HR activities.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
