This position will serve as the HR Business Partner for the Office of the CIO (OCIO) and its Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) organization and is the primary point of contact for ETS supervisors/managers and ETS leadership for HR-related services. Reporting to the Director of Business Operations and Planning, with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Director of Human Resources, this position is characterized by a high degree of collaboration and coordination in the delivery of professional level HR services to support OCIO organizational objectives and strategies, in partnership with the campus HR office. The position is responsible for coordination and delivery of HR services; assessing and anticipating OCIO organizational needs; and working with campus HR and OCIO leadership to develop integrated solutions for a high performing culture, including implementation of University of California (UC) system, UCSB campus Human Resources (HR), and Associate Vice Chancellor for IT and CIO (or OCIO) specific HR-related initiatives.


This JD reflects a dual classification recruitment at the Professional level 2 (non-exempt) or Professional level 3 (exempt). The ultimate decision to fill the position at either the Professional level 2 or Professional level 3 will be based on the combination of expertise, experience, and skills in HR subject matter, HR leadership, analytical and critical thinking, communication, workforce planning, employee relations, and HR strategic planning.


The effort assigned to job responsibilities may shift in response to changing goals and objectives and the demands of HR-related initiatives.


Salary range: $58,130 - $91,400, Salary negotiable.

Requirements: HR Generalist Professional level 2 (non-exempt):

• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent combination of education/experience. Direct experience with the following Human Resources functions: recruitment, employee onboarding, separation and off-boarding, and records management. Knowledge of human resources concepts, best practices, risk implications, and compliance requirements of Federal and State laws/regulations in the functional areas described. Recent HR Generalist experience is preferred.

• Highly skilled in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively share information, seek input from others, and adapt communication to diverse audiences. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully as an individual and as part of a team and/or serve as a team leader. Proven ability to build effective working relationships. Ability to collaborate, influence and command the respect and confidence of campus partners and have the capacity to deal with a wide range of relationships and situations. Possesses well-developed active listening skills.


HR Generalist Professional level 3 (exempt):

• In addition to the Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities described above, the Professional level 3 requires significant, progressive generalist experience in the field of Human Resources that demonstrates HR leadership, advanced knowledge of human resources concepts, best practices, risk implications, and compliance requirements of Federal and State laws/regulations across the full scope of HR functions. Demonstrated experience in employee relations, compensation administration, and performance management. Ability to translate the long-term vision for the organization into HR work plans that align HR priorities with broader goals, measure outcomes, and use feedback to change as needed. SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.


Special Conditions of Employment: Criminal history background check required. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship currently or in the future. May be required to report to duty in the event of emergency and may need to help mobilize other staff members during and after an emergency. Work schedule may require occasional evening and weekend work. Telecommuting or Remote work may be an option for this position.
