American Furniture Warehouse, which is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, is one of the top retail furniture companies in the U.S. with sales topping $700 million in 2018 and with nearly 3,000 employees throughout Colorado and Arizona. One of the largest privately held businesses in Colorado, AFW is expanding to Houston, Texas. 

We are currently seeking an experienced HR Generalist to lead HR initiatives in multiple Houston area locations. The position will be instrumental in staffing two new retail locations and adjoining warehouse and transportation operations. 

Fully staffed, the facilities located in Katy and Webster, will employ 700-850 full-time employees. 

This position reports to the corporate HR Director and will work closely with store and warehouse management. We are looking for an HR leader and creative solution finder for these two new locations. 

Essential Functions

  • Partners with the hiring managers to determine staffing needs.
  • Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and other government regulations.
  • Conducts exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement.
  • Responds to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations and civil rights complaints.
  • Represents the company for any unemployment claims.
  • Facilitates or provides training (including orientation) to the workforce.
  • Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.
  • Interviews, screens and recruits job applicants to fill entry-level, professional and technical job openings.
  • Reviews applications and interviews applicants to match experience with specific job-related requirements.
  • Conducts new-hire orientation.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or higher preferred
  • 3-5 Years HR generalist experience 
  • Multiple location experience desireable
  • Experience with full cycle recruitment a must
  • Knowledge of Texas and federal employment law, multi-state experience highly desirable
  • Experience managing workers compensation
  • HR certification highly desirable
  • MUST be able to travel up to 50% during the first 3-4 months for training and onboarding
  • Must be able to work remotely for 3-6 months
