The human resource generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior management in supporting the development of the company’s culture and goal attainment. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, affirmative action and employment law compliance. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the organization. The generalist must be sensitive to corporate needs, employee goodwill and the business needs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Arranges and conducts new-hire orientations and process paperwork according to department procedures.
  • Full cycle recruiting from assisting manager with updating or create accurate job descriptions, writing job postings, and job boards,.
  • Manage recruiting logistics from prescreening candidates to determine the most qualified and promising candidates according to minimum and preferred qualifications to drafting and sending offer letter.
  • Handles college relations and oversees various sourcing and internship programs.
  • Acts as liaison with area employment agencies and advertising agencies.
  • Coordinates appropriate employment testing.
  • Conducts employment verifications.
  • Extends verbal and written contingent job offers.
  • Coordinates background checks and new-hire drug testing.
  • Maintains employee referral program.
  • Conducts stay and exit interviews, summarizes findings, and discusses trends and concerns with senior management.
  • Assist with employee relations counseling, performance management, drafting performance documentation in compliance with state and federal laws, review terminations and when possible be present when the manager terminates the employee
  • Update the monthly termination/headcount report.
  • Administers unemployment insurance processes, reviews liability reports, monitors program costs and recommends policy changes to the manager of human resources.
  • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Ensures compliance with all state and federal discrimination and employment regulations.
  • Maintains an attitude and philosophy consistent with the company's standards.


  • Intermediate human resource expertise to administer HR functions and tasks
  • Relationship management and networking skills: perceptive and capable or relating with all levels of individuals outside and within the company.
  • Able to maintain confidential information and ethical practice at all times.
  • Identify between three and five competencies


Supervisory Responsibilities



Working Conditions

This position is 80% in office, 10% in the field and 10% networking with local higher education organizations and recruiting agencies. The office environment is characterized as that found in a typical office environment, with moderate temperatures and noise levels. Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

  • Interact with others requiring employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information.

  • Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
  • See and read computer monitors and documents.
  • Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.

The minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational development, or related field
  • 3-5 years of human resource experience preferable in employee relations and recruiting.
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • Intermediate skill with Word, Excel, Power Point, ATS and HRIS software
